George F. "Hooter" Scanlon Jr.

George F. 'Hooter' Scanlon, J., 67, of Howell Twp., NJ, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at CentrsState Medical Center in Freehold Twp., NJ. Mr. Scanlon was born in Neptune, NJ., and had resided in Freehold Boro, NJ., before settling in Howell Twp. 41 years ago.

George worked for Ralph Clayton & Sons in Lakewood Twp. as a maintenance supervisor for 44 years, retiring in January, 2013. George proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Navy Seabees and received the Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Navy Unit Citation and the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Scanlon was a communicant of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Jackson Twp., and was a member of the American Legion Post 54 in Freehold. Most of all he was proud of his grandchildren who were the light of his life.

He was predeceased by his parents, George F. Scanlon, Sr. & Mary Scanlon and by his brother-in-law, John Bielak. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia (Bielak) Scanlon; his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Robert Pickus of Jackson Twp., NJ; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Dianna Scanlon of Lynnfield, MA; his grandchildren, Jordan Pickus, Matthew Pickus, Sierra Scanlon, Alexandra Scanlon and Olivia Scanlon; his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Linda Scanlon of Freehold, NJ; his mother-in-law, Cecelia Bielak of Sayreville, NJ; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Brian and Charlene Bielak of Sayreville, NJ; his sister-in-law, Theresa Bielak of South Amboy, NJ; his nephews, Christopher Bielak, Brandon Bielak, Patrick Bielak, Andrew Bielak, William Scanlon and Thomas Scanlon; and by his many other relatives and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation on Sunday, December 29, 2013, from 2-6 PM at THE GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ 08527. A funeral gathering will be offered on Monday, December 30, 2013, at 9:15 AM at the funeral home. His Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:30 AM at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Overlook at Pulaski Ave., Sayreville, NJ.
