Harris Mac Beth Obituary

(Asbury Park Press)

HARRIS D. "MAC" MAC BETH
AGE: 75 RUMSON
Harris D. "Mac" Mac Beth, 75, of Rumson, passed away at St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, on Thursday, Nov. 6. Mac was born in Manhattan and graduated from P.S. 7 and the High School of Music and Art. He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the City College of New York. He served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. The Associated Press enjoyed the benefits of Mac's talents as photography editor for 47 years, not including the commute. Some would say he had a passion for history; along with interests in boating, hiking, gardening, wood working and crafts. Mostly, he was a kind gentleman with a big heart and a wicked sense of humor. He will be deeply missed.
Mac was predeceased by his parents Laura and Samuel Mac Beth and his daughter in law, Victoria Knight MacBeth. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Lynn; his son, Bruce, Tinton Falls; a twin brother, John and his wife, Fay, Alpharetta, Ga.; his granddaughters, Harleigh and Kelsey, along with several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with remembrances at 7:30 p.m. at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mac's name may be made to the Monmouth County Park System, 805 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, NJ 07738, or the Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall St., Eatontown, NJ 07724.

Dear Lynn & Bruce,
My heart aches for your loss. The world is diminished now that Mac is gone. I will miss his wit, his knowledge but most of all the friendship he offered. I will treasure the memories of sitting on your couch and talking the night away and perhaps savoring a nice single malt or just a good cup of coffee. He will be sorely missed.

To Lynn, Bruce and the MacBeth family and friends: I will cherish the memory of sharing with Mac one of his favorite pastimes: kayaking in the nooks and crannies of the Navesink and Shrewsbury rivers.
Any kayaking outing with Mac was also a nature seminar: he could identify the birds and vegetation that we saw along the way.
It was a real privilege knowing Mac, a lovely and generous man.
