Helen A. Douty

AGE: 88 • Middletown

Helen A. Douty, 88, of Middletown, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at home. She was born on October 23, 1922 in Long Branch. NJ and resided in Middletown for 19 years. She graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1941. She married Ernest Ackerman in November 1941 who was killed in action as a Lieutenant in the US Air Force in April 1944. She married Harry W. Douty in June 22, 1947. Helen was a member of the SPCA Auxiliary, ARC of Monmouth Recreation Department and Work Opportunity Center, Red Bank Meals on Wheels and Aslan Youth Ministries. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury.

She is predeceased by her first husband; Ernest Ackerman, her parents; Bayard Monroe Beebe and Ella H. (Carhart) Beebe. Surviving is her husband; Harry W. Douty, her children; Ernest Ackerman of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Bayard Richard Douty of Cape Elizabeth, ME and Douglas Harding Douty of Fair Haven, Lynn Radeloff of Glenmoore, PA and Jane Carhart Davis of Bath, ME, her sister; Jane Lechtrecker of Indianapolis, IN, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 11th, 11:30 a.m. at Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Presbyterian Church of Shrewsbury, 352 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury, NJ 07702, or to the ARC of Monmouth County, 1158 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls, NJ 07712.
