IRA JEROME HOLZMAN
AGE: 92 LITTLE EGG HARBOR
Ira Jerome Holzman, 92, of Little Egg Harbor died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 7 at Southern Ocean County Hospital. Dr Holzman was a graduate of Yale University and the Long island College of Medicine. During WWII he served for three and and half years as medical officer in the U.S. Navy While lieutenant in the Medical Corps aboard the U.S.S. Mervine, he received personal commendation for action in Bizerte, Tunisia. After practicing for several years in Brooklyn, New York at Wyckoff Heights Hospital and in Queens at Saint John's Episcopal Hospital he moved to Toms River, in 1961. There he opened his office on Main Street. For a while he was affiliated with Paul Kimball Hospital and Point Pleasant Hope Hospital. With the opening of Community Memorial Hospital he practiced there full-time. He was the Chief of the Department of Urology until he retired in 1982. He was also the President of the Ocean County Medical Society 1975-1976 and was also President of Community Memorial Hospital 1977-1978. Dr Holzman was dedicated to his patients, his fellow physicians and to the hospital. He was a man of integrity and honesty, a gentle man, and always a gentleman. Besides his practice he had other interests: member of the American Rhododendron Society, enjoyed working in his beautiful garden, was a season ticket holder and sponsor of the Philadelphia Orchestra for many years.
His parents, Dr. Arthur and Theresa Metzger Holzman and brother, Stanley B. Holzman, predeceased Dr. Holzman. He is survived by his adoring wife, Rhoda L.; loving daughter, Theresa "Tess" Perlman; three beautiful granddaughters Arielle, Abigail and Alannah; brother, Chester Harlow; sister-in-law, Sally Harlow; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hal and Helen Grayson and many nieces and nephews
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9 at Congregation B'nai Isreal, 1488 Old Freehold Rd., Toms River and burial will follow in B'Nai Israel Cemetery in Toms River. In lieu of flowers make donations to a charity of your choice. Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home in Toms River is in charge of the arrangements.
