AGE: 84 • Middletown

James R. Gill (POP POP), 84, a lifelong resident of Middletown passed away at his home to be reunited in Heaven with his wife Helen, who passed in 2013, and their son James Gill, Jr., who passed in 1974. He was so loved by us, his surviving son, Dave Gill and his daughter-in-law Beverly Gill; his grandsons, Dave Gill and Bryan Williamson. He has one surviving sister, Gladys Purcell, and many relatives and friends who thought the world of him. He served in the US Navy (the only one who couldn't swim) until 1954 - Honorably of course! He was a supervisor for Middletown Sewerage Authority where he was also known as Norton! He was involved a lot of ways in his community: with Middletown Pop Warner Football, MYAA Basketball, Lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 2179, Lions Club, the VFW, Past-President of the Middletown Booster Club, and an avid member of the Democratic Party. He was an usher for St. Mary's Church in New Monmouth for over 50 years. He always thought golf was life! He was such a gentle, loving, and kind man and he will be missed by us all.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 8, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 9:15 am at St. Mary's Chapel, 26 Leonardville Rd., Middletown. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
