(Asbury Park Press)

JANE D. CARBONE
AGE: 78 RED BANK
Jane Dombroski Carbone, 78, of Red Bank, passed into eternal life on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Jane was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Estella Dombroski; and her 10 brothers and sisters, Sadie Peterson, Francis, Charles, Bernard, Anna DeBlois Dacy, Helen, Louis, Joseph, Alexander, and Clementine Barron. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 57 years, Lester A. Carbone. Together they raised four children, Janet and Michael Kranis of Shrewsbury, Anthony and Aileen Carbone of Altus, Okla., Phyllis Clayton of Spencerport, N.Y., and Claire and Paul Hackett of Binghamton, N.Y. Jane is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Mark Carbone, Heather Kraft (Michael), Krista Guthrie, 1st Lt. Steven Carbone, Thomas Clayton (Kelley), Melissa Cassidy (Brad), Brian Clayton (Shae), Clifford Carbone, Jessica Birmingham, Amanda Blankenship (Sean), Stephanie Carbone Hackett, Jessica Hackett, and Zachary Kranis. Also surviving are 20 great-grandchildren, Felicity, Abigail, Michaela, Sabin, Isaiah, Isabella, Felix, Jacob, Morah, Sebastian, Ethan, Dylan, Kiara, Simon, Aiden, Lauren, Wyatt, Charlie, Connolly, and Olivia. "The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living." Cicero
Born in Colts Neck in 1931, Jane was a lifelong resident of Monmouth County. She attended Atlantic Elementary in Colts Neck, and after graduating from Red Bank Catholic High School in 1949, she worked as a bookkeeper at the former Crate's Liquors, a home health aide, and a postal clerk in Colts Neck prior to retiring. Jane loved to travel, and with Lester, she experienced sites throughout the United States, as well as in Italy, Germany, and Switzerland. She enjoyed a good game of golf, wrote humorous poems, helped organize many of her high school reunions, and took pleasure in clipping articles of interest for members of her family. Jane was also a devoted Yankees fan. Jane's great talent was her knitting, and throughout the years she created many beautiful afghans, now treasures and keepsakes to all who received one. Jane was a tough taskmaster, and she channeled that trait in her nearly two decade fight against cancer. Mom, we know the phone will no longer ring that second time with the familiar refrain of, "Just one more thing I forgot to tell you."
The family wishes to thank Dr. Boak, Dr. Fitzgerald, Bethany, Candice, Joanne, and the rest of the staff from Meridian Home Care; Pat from Heart to Heart; and all who aided in Jane's comfort and care, especially our father, Lester, and our sister, Janet.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16 at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17 at St. James R.C. Church, 94 Broad St., Red Bank. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Jane's alma mater, Red Bank Catholic High School, Red Bank, New Jersey 07701.

Every night as I watch television I wrap myself in the beautiful gold quilt that you made for me - it must be 15 years old and I still treasure it. we have so many memories - getting up at 6 a.m. and playing golf at Holland Orchards and then breakfast, Claire and Karen being teenagers together. you will be missed, Betty and Bob Haines

My prayers and thoughts are with the family at this time of sorrow. I will always remember her smiles as we chatted at the annual clambake at Mike and Heather's. May the face of Jesus smile upon her forever. Mary Carmela (Kraft)

I will forever remember our Marshall's shopping trips, watching (and rewatching) of the royal weddings, catching fireflies in your backyard in jars you saved especially for that purpose, trips to Delicious Orchards and so many more wonderful memories from my childhood!!! You will be forever missed at our annual clambake...I guess from now on I will just have to chop the onions! And whenever I see a Yankees game I will want to call you so we could talk while you watched and just so I could hear "oh, and another thing". You were a wonderful grandmother and an even more wonderful great-grandmother. I LOVE YOU! Heather
