Jeffrey Buckley Obituary

Jeffrey David Buckley

AGE: 55 • Rutledge, PA

Jeffrey David Buckley, 55, of Rutledge, PA, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, from complications of the flu. He was born in Teaneck, grew up in Rumson, moved to Rye, NY, and Dorset, VT, before finally moving to Rutledge. He graduated from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School in 1977 and attended Saint Lawrence University. He began his career at Kidder Peabody, moving onto Salomon Brothers and UBS as an equity block trader. After a successful 20 year career on Wall Street, he shifted his focus to an alternative passion as a gardener at Sisters of Saint Francis of Philadelphia's Our Lady of Angels Convent.

He was a member of Monmouth Beach Bath and Tennis Club and served as Vice Commodore of Rumson Country Club where he helped revive the youth sailing program.

Jeff was predeceased by his brother, Matthew Buckley. He is survived by his fiancée, Angela Kidder; his parents, David and Mary Buckley; his brother Jonathan Buckley, sister Katherine and husband Mark Hughes, and sister Sarah and husband Joe Richter; his children, Jeffrey David Jr. and wife Mary Pat, Grace, Peter, and Henry; and their mother Sara Henderson Buckley.

Above all, Jeff sought an authentic life. He was charismatic, intelligent, and always curious. A life-long intellect, he could recite a Wall Street stock symbol as quickly as he could identify a species of tree. He was a kind, gentle, and humble man. He often found solace on his sailboat on the Navesink River or hiking mountains in Vermont, but more than anything he loved spending time with his children. He had a boundless love for his family, and his contagious passion for life will be sorely missed.

Visitation will take place from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Friday January 23, 2015 at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad Street, Red Bank. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday January 24, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at the Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Road, Fair Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an educational fund for Jeff's children. Please direct contributions to the "Buckley Family Education Fund" PO Box 8097, Red Bank, NJ 07701.

I worked with Jeff at Smith Barney in the late 80s early 90s. He was an extremely intelligent, thoughtful guy. Very sad to hear of his passing.

What an honor to have met Jeff and watch his delight in Angela and the peace he found serving at the monastery. How I loved listening to the peals of laughter that erupted from Jeff and Angela all day long- they were a perfect fit for one another, and both of them were people of tremendous integrity. I cannot imagine how Angela, his family and friends are coping with this great and sudden loss. Shalom to all!

This last summer I spent a few days climbing Mt Whitney in the Eastern Sierras with Jeff, Angela, and other friends. This was my first encounter with Jeff and could tell he was a great guy. My prayers go out to his family, friends and all he blessed with his presence.

Mary, David, and All Who Loved Jeff: my deepest condolences on the tragic loss of Jeff. I am on the big island of Hawaii and yesterday we planted two Hawaiian Koa trees in honor of Jeff and my wife (who passed 3 weeks ago). The two trees are side by side at 5000 feet on the slope of the Mauna Kea volcano. Very beautiful.

We grieve both with and for you, Angela and all of Jeff's family. Coming to work at the convent, I can't believe I won't see him and get to chat. What a wonderful man, a tribute to his family and his upbringing. The Sisters here are quite distraught, all lamenting his tragic, unexpected passing and missing his joyous presence. We all feel that way. Our love, thoughts and prayers are with you in this terrible loss. Jeff is a truly wonderful, smart, and funny guy.

My thoughts, prayers and love go out to Angela and the entire Buckley family. I can't help but question life's journey and the hurdles we come upon a long the way? Many times the answers are not easily found and clues are well hidden. But I hope you find comfort knowing Jeff was truly happy, shared true love and was at peace with the life he had recently found. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
