John and I served our apprenticeship together at Automatic Process Control, during and after high school. We were pretty tight friends back then, even eating lunch together every day in the park next to our workplace. I bought my first car from him, a '63 Chevy II, which he built, and man was it fast! He used the money to buy a '64 Impala, which he built into an awesome hot rod. Later, he sold that and bought a '42 Willys Coupe, which was barely street legal. We carpooled in that beast and we got pulled over by the cops a few times. The cops liked the car so much that they let him slide for the fat racing slicks, open headers, plastic windows, etc. Anyway, he was attending Auto Mechanic classes at Lincoln Tech every night back then, so I am glad to learn that he wound up with a career at LT as an instructor, because he loved that place. I have tons of stories about him and me, and I regret losing touch with him after I moved away. He was a great guy, always had that laugh ready to blast. I suppose losing him is like losing a library, with all his mechanical prowess. I'm sad to learn of his passing. My condolences to his family and friends.

When Aunt Mary Ann first brought Jack into my life I was 3 or 4 years old. I climbed up into his lap and claimed him for my own. He melted on the spot and our bond was instant. He referred to me as "the baby" for as long as I've known him, I'm 34 now. I would stay with him and Aunt Mary Ann briefly every summer throughout my life and Jack always made a point of taking some time off work to spend with me one on one. They gave me a home when I needed a place to stay, he took me shopping for clothes when tragedy struck and left me with little, he was always there to help me any way he could - we would even have late night talks, after Aunt Mary Ann would go to sleep, about boys, life, & family. I love him with all my heart, unconditionally - he was like a second father to me - and I know he felt the same for me. My heart goes with him and my thoughts, sympathy, and support are forever with my Aunt. I Love You Both!

My sincere condolences to the Larkin family. Jack was one of my students and later we worked as instructors at Lincoln Tech. I remember Jack as one who loved cars and people in general. His laughter was contagious.
