John Slowey Obituary
AGE: 82 • Spring Lake Heights
John C. Slowey, Jr., 82, of Spring Lake Heights, passed away on March 30, 2016 surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, John moved to Avon-by-the Sea before he went on to faithfully serve his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. When he married his beloved wife Marianne, they moved to Spring Lake Heights, where he lived for more than sixty years. John was employed with UPS as a parcel delivery man for 34 years and after retirement, worked as a starter at Spring Meadow Golf Course. Earlier, John tended bar at many of the area's establishments including Kelly's Tavern and Mike Doolan's. He was a member of the BPOE 2534, VFW Post 1838 and the Spring Lake Heights Volunteer Fire Dept.
But above all, John loved being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed. John is predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and John C. Slowey, Sr., a sister Joan Currello, a sister and brother-in-law Dorothy Marilyn (Pat) and Al Bianco, a brother William B. Slowey and a son-in-law Christopher Dellett.
John leaves his loving wife of 61 years, Marianne (McQuillan); his daughters and sons-in-law, Joan Dellett of West Belmar, Arlene and Sam Barlow of Mt. Juliet, TN, Janet Egan of Wall, and Patricia and William Cadwell of Wall; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Karla Slowey, Dennis and Margaret Slowey, Carole Meseroll, Lynn Slowey, Peggy and Bill Wetzel and Barbara McCormick. He also leaves his grandchildren Joshua (Andrea) Dellett, Jessica (Patrick) Flannery, Jackie and Christina Barlow, Katie (Jeff) Byrnes, JJ, Shane and Cecilia Egan, Henry and Brielle Cadwell; as well as his great-grandchildren Joshua, Abigail, and Connor; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall, on Saturday, April 9, 2016, from 2-5:30pm, with a Service and Military Honors to be held at 5:30pm. Private cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to Just Us Girls, PO Box 663, Manasquan, NJ 08736.

It is Dennis j Slowey Jr. uncle John was an nice uncle he was very hospitable and very nice 2 me he had a good sence of humor. And a good brother 2 my dad and a nice person 2 be around I will hope 2 c him in the new order young again. Arlene,
I was so saddened to learn of the loss of your dad. What a great smile he had! My heart goes out to you as I know the emptiness you feel and the pain that won't let go. I pray God will wrap all of you in His Loving Arms, giving you strength and comfort in the days ahead. Please give your mother, sisters, Sam and your children my sincere condolences.

I will always smile when I remember John as the Toast Master. That would be once a month at the Elk's breakfast . He had quite a technique with dueling toasters. Great guy.

John's up there trading stories with St. Peter and laughing that infectious laugh of his. I only hope he will be at B-15 in the parking lot tailgating when I get there.
