Joseph Paul Kiernan, III

Formerly of Long Branch - Joseph Paul Kiernan, III, 63 formerly of Long Branch died at his home in Mercer County on Monday, May 17th.

Paul was born and raised in Long Branch. He went to Star of the Sea Academy for grade school, Red Bank Catholic High School and Villanova University. Following college, Paul did what he enjoyed most becoming a bartender, working at many Country Clubs and fine dining venues along the Jersey Shore. Paul successful overcame his dependence on alcohol achieving 7 anniversaries in AA. He attended 3 meetings a day, he focused his attention on helping others leading by example of what he was able to achieve for himself, he had achieved a great peace in his life. Paul was a lifelong parishioner of St. Michael's RC Church.

Paul's love of his family was immeasurable, he enjoyed making the trip from his Mercer County home to Long Branch every Sunday to cook family dinner as well as inviting his family to his home for special dinners. He enjoyed shopping and had purchased picture frames, so that he had all his family pictures in his home. He loved his German Shepherds and his Akita. Paul enjoyed many fun times in the kitchen with his mother Joan.

He was quick witted and had a vast knowledge of many subjects. During the pandemic, he found and enjoyed binge watching shows on Hulu and Netflix as well as shopping online for any gadget he could find. He had a fun outgoing personality, loved to make friends, was loyal to his family and always tried to be uplifting and positive to all, especially those he was helping.

Paul was pre-deceased by his mother, Joan Meehan Kiernan in 2008; his sister, Kathleen Kiernan Jamison in 2017; his brother, David Kiernan in 1957; his grandparents, Wilhelmina and Paul Kiernan, (former Monmouth County Sheriff).

Surviving is his father, Joseph Paul Kiernan, Jr.; his siblings, Michael Kiernan, Kim Kiernan, Karen Baker, Patrick Kiernan and Chris and his wife Michele Kiernan; his niece Patricia Catlaw and his nephews, William Jamison and Brian Jamison.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 1 pm to 4 pm on Sunday, May 23rd at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Funeral mass Monday, May 24th, 10:30 am, at St. Michael's RC Church, Long Branch. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery.
