JOSEPH G. OSTERBYE
AGE: 77 KEANSBURG
Joseph G. Osterbye, 77, of Keansburg, passed away Monday, Aug. 23, 2010. Born and raised in Kearny, Joseph married his wife in 1961 before moving with his family to Keansburg in 1968. Joseph attended St. Stephen Catholic School in Kearny before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon his return to the U.S., Joe worked as a distribution manager at the American Can Company. A lifelong Yankees fan, Joe coached Little League and enjoyed watching baseball after his retirement. Always a hard-working family man, the "Big O" and his wife split their time between their home in Keansburg and their home in Port Richey, Fla. over the last 20 years.
Joseph leaves behind his beloved wife of 49 years, Anna May (nee McBride). Also surviving are his five children and their families, his son, Joseph; and daughter, Dora, both of Keansburg; son, John of Jackson; son, Raymond of New York City; and daughter, June Ann Baker of Texas. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Patrick, Ryan, Thomas, Angela, and Joey of Keansburg, and Miranda and Kara of Bowie, Texas. He is also survived by two nieces, Lynda Cassese and Joan Gallant, both of Florida.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, with a service at 7:30 p.m. at the Laurel Funeral Home, 201 Laurel Ave., West Keansburg. Cremation will be private.
