Joseph Traina Obituary
AGE: 80 • Lakewood
Joseph M, Traina, Jr., 80, of Lakewood formerly of Brooklyn, NY passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood. Mr. Traina was a mail handler for the US Post Office in New York City for 23 years before his retirement and also worked for the Mason Tenders on many construction projects including the World Trade Center. He served his country in the US Marines during the Korean War from 1953-1956 earning a National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.
Mr. Traina was a 1953 graduate of New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn and a lifelong resident there until moving to Lakewood in 2008. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed horse racing.
Mr. Traina was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Antoinette Traina. Surviving are his sister, Marguerite DiBenedetto and her husband, Nicholas of Manchester; niece, Patricia Foley and her husband, Bill of Hockessin, DE; nephews, John DiBenedetto and his wife, Rose of Northborough, MA and Joseph DiBenedetto and his wife, Jeanne of Tinton Falls; his dear friend, Jean Folchetti of Lakewood; 5 great nieces; and many cousins.
Visiting will be on Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 1-3pm at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A prayer service and a military flag folding ceremony will be held at 3pm in the funeral home. Interment will be held privately at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, Queens, NY.
