Josephine Michaud Obituary

(Asbury Park Press)

JOSEPHINE "JOAN" MICHAUD
AGE: 79 HAZLET
Josephine "Joan" Michaud, 79, of Hazlet, formerly of Keyport, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 10, 2010. Beloved wife of Raymond Michaud, Joan was predeceased by her parents Phillip and Florence Bellotto; Marie Spino, her aunt; and siblings Rose Moyer, Lillian Taylor, Phillip Bellotto, Pauline Ray, Marie Lovelace and Vincent Bellotto. She is survived by sisters Florence Jones, Jean Stapleton and Teresa Croce; first husband Tom Gallo, Sr., of Cliffwood, and their children Flo and husband Dana Crawford, Tom Gallo, Jr., and wife Lona Joyce and Debi and husband Gary Gallopo. She is also survived by brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews of her husband, Raymond Michaud. She has seven grandchildren Joni Kocur; Dana Crawford and Denise Burke; Cali and Joseph Gallopo; and James and Janet Gallo. Her great-grandchildren are Rachyal Petrick, Drew and Hannah Burke; Reagan Crawford, and Sidney Kocur.
Born on March 10, 1931, in Keyport, Joan attended Keyport Public Schools working thereafter as a seamstress in the former Aeromarine Plant for many years. She entered the restaurant business becoming hostess at the famous Fisherman Restaurant in Neptune. She loved and created reasons for big family gatherings which always included friends and anyone walking by her home that needed food or a hug. She worked tirelessly to ensure family or friends always had a place to stay. "Memom," as most called her, always offered an ear to listen or gave good advice even if it was not what the grandchildren wanted to hear. She gave everyone a place in her heart beginning as a young mother of three. With modest means available, less fortunate children from shelters stayed the weekend at her home on Fulton Street which taught her children (who in return taught their children) it is better to give and be thankful you have something to share. Her generosity and care for everyone was always placed above herself. Even during her recent illness, she expressed concern she was causing an inconvenience to everyone she loved. "Memom", who will be deeply missed, will always be with us always and especially at every family event.
Visitation will be held Wednesday May 12 at Day Funeral Home 361 Maple Place Keyport NJ 07735 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A funeral will be held Thursday 9:30 am @ Day Funeral Home followed by a 10:30am Mass @ St. Benedict's RC Church, Holmdel. Interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Keyport, NJ.

"Memom" will always be someone that we all love with our hearts. She and her advice will never be forgotten, and wherever we are..she will be right there with us. She was and will forever be one of the most amazing people that we have ever come across, and even though she has passed, she is now the angel who will guide us through life. We love you Memom, and will never, ever forget you. Always, US.

We are lighting this candle as a rememberance to Aunt Joan, because she lit up every room she walked into. She was truly a special person and will be missed by anyone that knew her

We will always remember Joan as a beautiful, vibrant, caring, generous friend. We are saddened by her passing, but know she is at peace. Her spirit will live on with all of our loving memories of her. We have all been blessed by knowing her. May your memories of her bring you joy and comfort.
We have heard wonderful stories of her childhood from my Mother, Ruth Tooker Donatelli. My mother has always, and still does, tell stories of their happy, carefree, somtimes mischievous, childhood. We do not get tired of hearing them - they are precious, loving memories that will live on.

We send our heartfelt sympathy to Joan's husband, Ray, her children and all of her family and friends. Joan will be missed.

Joan was a special, special person. We have not seen Joan in many years but those years do not dull our feelings for Joan. She welcomed us into her home and family. She loved us and we loved her in return. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. Sincerely, Laura and Bill Hogan
