Kevin Cox Obituary

Kevin P. Cox

AGE: 59 • Naples, FL

Kevin P. Cox, 59 of Naples Florida, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, while vacationing in Paris, France. We take comfort knowing he was with his loving, supportive companion, Jane Kelly. Kevin was born on March 18, 1954 in Manhattan, NY and raised in Meier's Corners, Staten Island, NY. He later moved to the Jersey Shore residing in Bradley Beach, Belmar and Sea Girt. Kevin frequently returned to the Jersey Shore to be with family and friends.

Kevin was a graduate of Monsignor Farrell HS, Staten Island. Kevin attended Manhattan College and LIU College of Brooklyn while he pursued his nursing degree at St. Vincents Nursing School in SI, NY. Kevin's nursing career included Staten Island Hospital, Bayley Seton Hospital and St. Vincents Hospital where he eventually became an instructor at the "St. Vinny's" Nursing School. Kevin also followed in his father PJ's footsteps and joined the NYPD, assigned to the 68 pct. He later proudly retired at the rank of Sergeant.

Kevin was predeceased by his father, Patrick J. Cox and his mother, Marcella (nee Kitson). The oldest of 9 children, Kevin is survived by his eight brothers and sisters: brothers, Patrick Cox of El Segundo CA, Timothy & Lorraine Cox of Freehold, Richard Cox of NYC, James and Jill Cox of Neptune; sisters, Marcella and Jack Icovino of Brick, Therese and Lou Errichiello of Howell, Elizabeth Cox of Old Bridge, and Annemarie and Joseph Gulino of Middletown. He is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews; his companion, Jane Kelly and her son, Jack Kelly of Fort Meyers, Florida.

"KC" loved the Jersey Shore. He could always be spotted riding his bike along the beach and stopping at his favorite hangouts. Kevin loved to travel and as a longtime member of the Staten Island Ski Club, Kevin organized many memorable ski trips around the world. Kevin was a huge NY Yankee fan, traveling to spring training and many ballparks around the country. Kevin was loved by many and he will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2013 at Ely Funeral Home in Neptune, NJ (*under the direction of Reilly Funeral Home of Belmar). A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at Holy Innocents Church, Neptune. Donations to The Wounded Warrior Foundation in Kevin's memory would be greatly appreciated.

Kevin's family, Jane and many friends---we are so sad & shocked at Kevin's leaving us. As a Carlton Lakes, Naples, Fl neighbor, we will miss seeing him--especially, our long talks on many subjects he knew. Recently (2 days before going on trip)we talked at length about favorite NJ shore places. Having also just returned from NJ and being at the shore area, we spoke of "Sandy" recovery and places never to be the same again. Also of his drive back to Fl and now packing for Paris trip and said we'd talk of Paris next time we spoke...ahhhhh. Kevin loved his life and family and has left us too soon. Peace be with you kind neighbor. Ann & Al Richards
