AGE: 56 • Manchester
Nicholas Velardo III 56 of Manchester died peacefully at home surrounded by his "Girls" Saturday September 1, 2012. He worked as a parts manager for 30 years for Meadowland Ford in Secaucus and most recently at Down's Ford in Toms River. Born in Paterson, he resided in Pompton Lakes and Paterson for 31 years before moving to Manchester 25 years ago. He enjoyed golfing, traveling (especially to Hawaii), playing his guitar, and spending time with his family. He is predeceased by his grandson, Nicholas James Costello and sister Karen Velardo. Surviving is his wife of 36 years, Lois A Clark Velardo, 4 daughters, Keli Barroqueiro & husband John of Howell, Dana Costello & husband James of Seaside Heights, Kathleen Velardo and Nikie-Leigh Velardo both of Manchester, and 2 grandchildren, John Nicholas and Addyson Elizabeth. Also, his parents Nicholas Jr and Shirley Velardo of Berkeley Twp, and sister Maryanne & Charlie Smith of Pompton Lakes and many nieces and nephews. Visitation is 3-8 PM Wednesday at Oliverie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester with a private cremation. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Research 1275 York Ave New York, NY 10021. I was so sad to hear this news. I remember all the good times we had so many years ago. Nick had a great sense of humor and a true love for life. He always had the soft, quiet punch line in some of the funniest moments I can remember. The heart heals a little as time goes by, but the memories stay forever sweet. My sincere love and sympathy to Lois and her four daughters. May you take some comfort knowing that Nick is in a better place and you shall all be together again in the distant future.

Lois and family, my condolences on Nick's passing. I mainly knew him from our HS reunions, where your presence together was predictable and reassuring while so many other marriages fell by the wayside. I'm so sorry that he will now be there only in spirit.
