Paul Richardson Obituary

Paul Lawrence Richardson, Sr.

AGE: 83 • Neptune

Paul Lawrence Richardson, Sr., 83 of Neptune passed away peacefully after a short illness, Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at Jersey Shore University Center. Mr. Richardson was the last surviving son of Chief Issac L. Richardson of the Sand Hill Band of the Delaware Lenape Tribe in Monmouth County and identified strongly with his native ancestry. Mr. Richardson was born in Brielle and lived briefly in Brooklyn, NY after marrying Marie Sims. He lived the remainder of his life in Belmar, Brielle and Neptune. He was a graduate of Brielle Elementary and Manasquan High where he played football. Mr. Richardson was a retired New York and Long Branch Railroad gateman and self employed Master Mason. Working until the age of 82 he built Jackson Funeral Home in Neptune as well as many other local landmarks. Mr. Richardson was a musical child prodigy and began to master the piano at age 4.

He was predeceased by his sons Dennis and Wayne Richardson, his brothers Issac and John Richardson, and his sisters Isabel Kennedy, Bertha Battle, Laura Harvey, Cora Richardson and Susie Stewart. He is survived by his sisters Grace Johnson and her husband William of Tinton Falls, and Gloria Henriques of Neptune. Mr. Richardson also leaves behind his daughter Tamara Richardson and four sons Paul Jr., Lester and his wife Tanya, Jeffrey and Mark as well as 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Known for his inspirational and ancestral storytelling, Paul Richardson will truly be missed.

A viewing will be held from 12:00 P.M. until noon. On Wednesday at Childs Funeral Home, 364 Shrewsbury Ave. Red Bank, NJ. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 P.M. Interment will be held at White Ridge Cemetery, Eatontown, NJ.
