Ralph Borgess Obituary
AGE: 61 • Lavallette
Ralph Henry Borgess, 61, of Lavallette died on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011 at Community Medical Center, Toms River, NJ. Born in Kearny, NJ living most of his adult life in Lavallette, NJ summering there for many years before moving there permanently 20 years ago. He was a High School Teacher and Football Coach then became the owner and operator of Cumberland Construction Company in Lavallette, NJ for many years. He graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelor degree in Business and was the Captain of the 1971 National Champion football team as well as being First Team All American. He was a Lavallette Life Guard. Ralph loved to read, the outdoors, and being home at Ralph & Annie's "Tiki Bar," he also loved music especially the Grateful Dead.
Predeceased by his father, Ralph Borgess. Surviving is his beloved wife, Annie (Ryder); his mother, Ruth (Stumpf) of Lavallette; one daughter, Christine Riccardi and her husband Robert of Staten Island, NY; two sons, Ralph Borgess and his wife Stephanie of Middletown, NJ, and Travis Borgess of Cedar Grove, NJ; one brother, Richard Borgess and his wife Laura of Highland Lakes, NJ; five grandchildren; his mother in-law, Ruth Ryder of Havertown, PA and also many friends and relatives.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 5, 2011 for a Memorial Gathering from 3pm until a 6pm Memorial Service at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 706 Grand Central Ave. Lavallette, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ralph's Memory to his wife Annie Borgess. I only knew Ralph for a few years, but I knew from the moment I met him that he was "A Stand Up Guy" He will be missed in Lavallette.

I am convinced you would be proud of how I was able to apply off the football field to what I learned on the football field. I believe I shared this with you when for I ran into you in 2003. R.I.P. Coach. I will never forget the season of 80-81 (especially camp Kiamesha) you took a group of boys and pointed us on our way to manhood. Will also remember all the good times at R Gang and Bums! My deepest condolences to the entire Borgess Clan!

My sincere condolences go to the Borgess family.
The day I met Coach Borgess, I knew the team was going to change. He was a special coach who knew more than X's and 0's. He sparked our team with the emotional charge and confidence we needed to succeed. Coach Borgess taught us how to believe in the unbelievable, do what we were told we couldn't, and to have fun while doing it. He made us winners. Thank you for everything. I knew Ralph for many years. Many at his tavern "Our Gang"' then for a while working with Ralph. His big smile and good nature will be missed by us all. After years of not seeing each other I met Ralph this past May and it was like old times, big smile, great attitude and a hug, that was Ralph. God Bless Ralph you will be missed.

Condolences to the Borgess family. Ralph will be missed. I was fortunate enough to be taken under his wing as a Frosh in QPHS. Later we shared many a brew in Kearney as well as down the shore. Rest in Peace big guy. 'Dude'

My sincere sympathies to Ralph's family. He was a respected teacher to so many and it seems a soft spot for those students struggling through the difficult teenaged years. He touched many lives in that respect and will always be remembered as 'that' teacher who made a difference. RIP Ralph.

We are both deeply saddened by the news of Ralph. His smile was absolutely the best! Our hearts are with Richard, and the entire Borgess family. We both have very fond memories of being with and around Ralph many years ago back in the day growing up as teenagers in Kearny and at KHS. May peace be with him and with you. Ralph was my homeroom teacher and good friend. It was a great surprise running into him down the shore while on my honeymoon. My sincerest condolences to the family. Ralph was a great guy and loved by many. Rest in peace, JR.
