AGE: 95 • Toms River

Raymond Mueller Snow, 95, of Toms River, died peacefully on March 24, 2011 at Leisure Park, Lakewood. He was horn on June 20, 1915 in Malone, New York to Elsa Irene Snow and Archibald Mueller Snow. His family moved to Montpelier, Vermont where he graduated Montpelier High School in 1934. He graduated The University of Vermont in 1938 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Raymond specialized in the field of aeronautical engineering working for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and Sikorsky Aircraft before becoming an instructor for the U.S. Navy Inspection School in New York, NY. In January 1943 he became an Aeronautical Engineering Superintendent at Lakehurst Naval Air Station, Lakehurst. It was here that he met his future wife Hazel Estell. The two were married on November 20 1943 at the bride's home in Jackson. Raymond continued to work as an Engineering Manager for the US Navy throughout WWII up until his retirement as a Logistics Program Manager in 1970. During that time lie worked at Lakehurst Naval Air, US Naval Weapons Services Office, Philadelphia, PA, and U.S. Naval Air Systems Command, Washington, DC. While he oversaw many of the Navy's major military programs such as shipboard and aircraft weapons systems, aircraft, rockets, and helicopters, his true love was the airship program. He received numerous awards and commendations for his work. After retiring from the Navy he began a second career in real estate working as an agent and broker for Frank J. Citta Realtors before finally retiring in 1980 at age 65. As a member of the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church in Jackson he served as a member on the board of trustees and was the editor of the church newsletter until 2009. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the national Association of Retired Federal Employees. Raymond was an avid genealogist, and historian. Most of all he loved to travel the world with his wife and family.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Hazel Estell Snow, his son Raymond Estell Snow, a daughter-in-law Sandra Blain-Snow and a granddaughter Sarah Snow. A childhood polio survivor, Raymond is remembered for his perseverance, his generosity, and a love of life. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Leisure Park and Meridian Hospice for the care and support they have provided Raymond and his family.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 27, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. Private graveside services will be held on Monday at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery. I am very saddened to learn of Ray's passing. I worked at Lakehurst NAS with Ray in the O&R Engineering Department starting in 1947. I have not seen Ray since 1959 but have always remembered him as an excellent engineer and a fine gentleman.
