Ruth Friedland, 94, of Asbury Park, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Newark, N.J. to the late Herman and Marion Frank, she lived in Bradley Beach before moving to Asbury Park 70 years ago. Ruth was a 1934 graduate of Asbury Park High School. Her senior class was the first to celebrate their graduation at Convention Hall, and she delivered the valedictory address. Through the years, she continued utilizing her skills in public speaking to assist a number of charitable causes. She was a past president of Asbury Park Hadassah, and was known for the striking hats she wore to meetings, naturally accompanied with white gloves. She was presently serving as the program chairwoman of Deal Shore Hadassah. Ruth, and her late husband, coordinated the weekly Bingo games at the Ruth Hyman Jewish Community Center for many years. She served as a trustee of the Asbury Park library. Ruth was employed for over 20 years at the Radio Cab Company in Asbury Park.

Ruth was predeceased, in 1996, by her husband of 55 years, Joseph Friedland, the Deputy Chief of Police in Asbury Park; her sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Louis Kramer; and a great-niece, Brooke Spector. Surviving is her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Ira Kreizman of Ocean Township; grandson, David Kreizman and his wife, Natasha; three great-grandchildren, Dashiell, Fiona, and Oliver Kreizman of Maplewood, N.J.; four nieces and spouses, Margo Kramer, Cyndy and Mike Topliff, Penny and John Huefner, Frankie and Ted Benning, as well as many cousins, great-nephews and great-great nieces.

A Chapel service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011 at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean Township. Interment will follow at Chesed Shel Ames Cemetery, Neptune.
