THOMAS A. BLANEY,SR.
AGE: 76 NEPTUNE
Thomas A. Blaney,Sr., 76, of Neptune, died Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He worked as a Route Salesman for Drakes Cakes before his retirement from the Teamsters Union Local 194 in 1996. Mr. Blaney was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, the American Legion Post 346, Neptune and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 15013. He was very active in youth sports, with the Neptune Pop Warner, the Neptune Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball and the Neptune Biddy Basketball.Born in Newark, he was a graduate of Queen of Peace High School in Kearny.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rosemary Pierson Blaney in 1995; by his infant son, Peter Blaney in 1961; and by his parents, William and Anna Blaney. Surviving are children and their spouses, Thomas and Karen Blaney of Eatontown, Timothy and Patti Blaney of Wall, Terrence and Brenda Blaney of West Long Branch, Patrick Blaney of Pt. Pleasant, AnneMarie and Dwaine Jones of Neptune, and Sharon and Sean Lafferty of New York, NY; 19 grandchildren, Thomas, III, Daniel, Brian, Devon, Timothy, Michael and Nicholas Blaney, Kara Stacey, Malorie Rendon, Brielle, Patrick and Abby Blaney, Camryn, Dwaine and Darien Jones, Kienan, Quinn and Ian Lafferty and Alicia Lyons and two great grandchildren, Zuri Rendon and Cael Wynne. Also surviving are his brother, William Blaney of Dunedin FL; his sister, Mary Ann Daley of Clearwater, FL; and his dear friend, Kathleen Snyder and her family.
Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. i wish it never happened.Its like he just died yesterday.I love him so much.The burial today was so nice.We pored his leftovers in the water on washington Av.now every time i go there he will swim with me.I know it has to happen and its going to happen to us one day to.To popo.........as long as your in that better place with God we will always remember you from the first day we saw you and so on.

We were sorry to hear about Tom's passing. We always enjoyed his company and especially his sense of humor whenever we were in his and your company at the Legion. He always had us laughing. He was a warm and sincere man; a great Irishman and a proud Marine. We will keep him in our prayers.

Big Tim and The Blaney Family,
Sincere and heart-felt sympathy on the passing of your Dad from the Hurley family.
While I didn't know Mr. Blaney well, I recall in our youth (a hundred years ago) playing AAU basketball for Neptune (and crushin' any team we played) and your Dad instilling in us a "refuse to lose" attitude! I remember being very afraid of disappointing Mr. Blaney so I worked as hard as possible on the court to ensure victory for our squad!!! It also helped that we had Carl Braggs, Terry Fisher, Mickey Hennessy, Glen Taylor and the boyz too!!!
My point being that Mr. Blaney and his generation had to fight for things they wanted -- our freedom, as evidenced by his impressive and courageous military background, working hard to raise a large family and victory in sports. Nothing was given to them. They had to earn it. And that was what he taught us.
The Blaney family and Hurley family are similar in many ways: our proud Irish heritage, our success in sports in our youth, our commitment to family and friends and in many other ways.
From my family to yours Tim, if there is anything you need/want, please let us know and we will get it done. I would not want to disappoint Mr. Blaney!
I know that Mr. & Mrs. Blaney are proud of the person you are Tim -- and your brothers and sister too. In this extremely difficult time, try to take solace in that fact.
Thinkin' of you Big Man and the Blaney family. Will add Mr. Blaney to my prayer list as I jog the boards and pay my respects to the faithfully departed.

Never wavering from his beliefs and opinions, Mr. Blaney was a one of a few people you can call a "good man". He was a strong, tough and respected individual with a caring, loving heart. I always looked forward to seeing him and will miss him.

I grew up around the corner from the Blaney's in Shark River Hills and remember Mr. Blaney from there and later on in life from the American Legion. He was a proud and great man and will be missed by many.
