William Leonard Grogan

AGE: 80 • Ocean Grove

William Leonard Grogan, 80, of Ocean Grove, passed away on July 20, 2015 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Born in Binghamton, NY to the late Leonard and Lena O'Neill Grogan, William was an extremely successful businessman and dedicated employee of IBM for 44 years of his life. Joining IBM in 1960, he was renowned for his leadership abilities, rising to the executive level, and eventually developing a highly successful career in a variety of IBM facilities in the Westchester County area. In 1995, he married his wife, Lorraine, and the two retired in 2004 to Ocean Grove, New Jersey. An avid golfer, reader, and sports fan, William was a man whose tremendous work ethic and strong values brought him great success in all facets of life. Of all these things, nothing was as important to him as family. He had many friends in the Ocean Grove community, attended the Church of the Ascension in Bradley Beach, and is survived by his wife, Lorraine, and children, Geoffrey and wife Debbi of Windsor, NY, Catherine and husband Robert Martin of Torrington, Connecticut, David and wife Paivi of Marlborough, New York, and Teresa of South Salem, New York. He also leaves behind his siblings, Dennis and wife Dorothy of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Sandra and husband Gary Lederman of Hamburg, New York, as well as his grandchildren, Thomas Grogan, Patrick Grogan, and William Dorgan. He will be dearly missed by them and many more. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. A mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Ascension, 501 Brinley Avenue, Bradley Beach. To the Grogan family,

I was so saddened to hear of Bill's passing. I was Bill's secretary at IBM Owego when he was the Controller. We had a special working relationship which worked into a friendship over the years. Bill made working fun and it was, by far, the most fun job I had in Owego. He knew how to get things accomplished while having fun at it. We kept in touch for a while after he left Owego, but, sadly, we eventually lost touch with each other. He was just a great guy and my sympathies go out to all the Grogan family. You have lost a gem.

Lorraine, we were so saddened to hear of Bill's passing. It was so very clear how much you both enjoyed each others company and laughter. You were both very lucky people. He is remembered fondly.

My sincere condolences to the Grogan family. I met Bill in the late 60's right before he became the Owego Controller in IBM . in addition to having great common sense and financial expertise he always maintain honesty and integrity. Working with him was an honor. Our paths crossed again when Bill was in Westchester county (IBM heaven).Bill eventually became the Division Contoller of IBM 's largest and most important Division. This was no accident . Bill was a superb leader. He helped influence so many of us non family members. His legacy will be remembered by many. Bob Volp

Bill was my last manager at IBM Tarrytown but more than that we became close friends. He was a special guy and I know he was sad when I told him I was leaving IBM at such a young age. My heartfelt condolences to all his family members, he was one of a kind.
