William O'Connor Obituary
Sykesville - William T. O'Connor, M.D., of Sykesville, MD died October 31st at the age of 92, after a brief illness and a long and wonderful life, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ, he was the son of William and Anne O'Connor. He attended St. Peter's College in Jersey City, and the National Universities of Ireland in Galway for medical school. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served during World War II. He served the Elizabeth community his entire career as a Surgeon, Police Physician and Medical Examiner.
After retiring to Maryland, he volunteered his time with the St. Vincent De Paul Society of St. Joseph's Church, and the Mission of Mercy Medical Clinic. He enjoyed painting, reading, and remaining up to date through medical journals.
He is predeceased by his parents, siblings Peg, Jack, and Richard, and granddaughter Maeve. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Loretta, his brother James, his six children, William (Colleen), Michael (Carolyn), Mary (Gregory), Paul (Cynthia), Katherine, Patricia (Michael), and Kimberly who was like a daughter to him. He is also survived by 15 adoring grandchildren: Katie, Will, Ian, Seamus, Liam, Meghan, Katherine, Anne, Mary, Margaret, Rachel, Max, Billy, Becky, and Emily, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His life will be celebrated with a Catholic Mass on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 9am at Holy Cross Church in Rumson NJ. In honor of his memory, if you would like, please consider a donation to Doctors Without Borders.

I was just thinking how wonderful of a man he was. What a beautiful Angel he is now. I will never forget him teasing me about silly things and singing songs during minor surgery. As a Rn for many years and a volunteer minor surgical assist prior, he was always a gentleman with a wonderful gift of laughter. I saw him one time after he retired. I didn´t recognize him. I felt so awful when he called my name and said do t you recognize me. I can tell he had been sick and I had kept him in my prayers ever since. God bless him and all those who Loved him. To the O'Connor family i send along our prayers and sympathies. Dr. O'Connor was a big, gentle man who took care of me when i cut part of my finger off at age 12. My dad, a policeman in Elizabeth, would take me to your Scotland Rd home once a week. Years later whenever i met him, he would always say "Let me see that finger."
God Bless the family, and heaven will be a better place now.
