Catherine Louise Gill

Catherine Louise Gill, 39 of Yuba City, CA passed away at her home on January 21, 2013.

Catherine was born in Seoul South Korea, and at age two was adopted by George and Betty Graham of Mesa Arizona. She grew up in Arizona and graduated with honors from Northern Arizona University with a BS in environmental science.

Catherine joined the US Army, where she would serve for five years and receive many honors to include 3rd Infantry Division Mechanized Soldier of the quarter. Her loving daughter Hanamoa (15), one of her life's greatest treasures, was the result of her union with Neemia Vaiagae. While serving at Fort Stewart GA, fell in love with and married Sgt. David Gill. The second of her cherished treasures was Abigail Louise(8), who would also be the best birthday gift she would receive.

Catherine worked for the CA water board as an environmental scientist, where she was well-respected and loved by her coworkers. She spent numerous hours volunteering as a Sunday school teacher and as an assistant in her children's classroom, while maintaining a family and working. The adage that if you want to get something done, ask a busy person was never more true than with Cathy. People knew they could rely on her to do what she said she would do. She was creative and passionate.

Catherine was a devout Christian and had an unwavering commitment to her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, aunt, daughter, sister. Catherine loved so deeply and her light shone so brightly that though she avoided being the center of attention, people often commented on her ability to brighten a room and sway people's moods.

After a long battle with ovarian cancer, during which she continued to stay involved in her children's lives, she passed gently in the arms of her husband Dave and two daughters Hana and Abby.

She is survived by her husband Dave, daughters Hanamoa and Abigail, Father George and step-mother Jeanelle, brother Erik, mother Betty, mother Yun Sook. She was also recently and miraculously reacquainted with her brother Hyung Sun and sister Hye Kyung, who remained in the orphanage in Korea after Catherine's adoption.

A memorial service will be held at the Bridge Church in Yuba City, 424 Epley Drive on Monday 28 January, 2013 at 1:00pm with reception following. There will be a videographer to record stories about Catherine for her daughters, and the family requests copies of photos.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made for her children in a memorial fund for Abby and Hana Gill at any Tri Counties Bank location, or written in husband's name.
