Corey Thornton Obituary

Corey Thomas Thornton, Jr., "Corey Boy", beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, passed from this life on Monday, March 7, 2022, at Rideout Hospital in Marysville, CA. Corey was 20 years old at the time of our sudden loss.

Corey was born on October 21, 2001, in Yuba City, CA. He grew up in Yuba City, and attended Sutter High School. He started working with his Mom at Casa Lupe Restaurant in Yuba City, as a dishwasher. Working with his father and his uncle, he was an apprentice lineman throughout California and Nevada.

Corey loved to play video games, go out with friends, and spend time at home with his family. He liked to go to the mall shopping, or just driving around town to goof off. Corey was always in the spotlight. One thing everyone says is, "Corey was the life of the party."

As a kid, Corey loved to hunt and fish. He wrestled at Twin Cities Wrestling Club. He loved going to tournaments with his cousins and his little brother, Brady Thornton. Corey was a student of Grandmaster Clingan's Korean Karate in Yuba City.

Corey had a loving, extended and blended family. He leaves behind his mother, Stacey Singley of Yuba City; father, Corey Thornton Sr. and step-mother, Andrea Thornton, of St. Maries, ID; daughter, Lillyann of Yuba City; brothers, Brady Matthew Thornton and Augustin Magana Singley of Yuba City; sisters, Mia Singley of Yuba City; and Madison and Sydney Thornton of St. Maries, ID. Corey's proud grandparents include Robert and April Singley of Yuba City; Kathy Thornton-Miller and Felix Miller of Yuba City; Dean and Lisa Thornton, of St. Maries, ID; great-grandparents Anthony and Ginny Matulich of Reno, NV.

Corey looked up to many aunts and uncles including Michael and Jessica Singley of Live Oak, CA; Shane Singley of Yuba City; Brooke Carr and Chris Carr of Yuba City; Todd Thornton and Kelli Reynolds of Yuba City; Michael and September Thornton of Kooskia, ID; and Melissa and Pat Hart of San Miguel, CA.

Corey liked to hang out and kick it with his cousins, including Jeffrey Thornton, Thomas Thornton, Billy Thornton, Todd Thornton, Jr., Briar Thornton, Trevor Thornton, and Brittney and Ryan Bryan; Lyrek, Easton, Rusty and Emmilyn Carr all of Yuba City.

Corey had loving family who passed away. These include his sister, Autumn Rose Thornton of Yuba City; great-grandmother, Evelyn "Gram" Inman of Yuba City; and grandparents, Jay and Nan Singley of Fair Oaks, CA.

Graveside services will be held at l:00 pm, on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Sutter Cemetery in Sutter, CA. A celebration of Corey's life will be held at the Sutter Youth Organization at 7740 Butte House Rd., Sutter, CA, immediately after. Family and friends are invited to attend.

I remember when your little boy and you said dad I don´t want to play baseball anymore I´m bored of sitting on the bench while the coaches kid pitches. You had the best arm of all kids on the team. The coach said your fast ball would be untouchable but can´t let you pitch your to good. So his kid pitched every game and you said dad I know you want me to not give up on the team but I´m missing wrestling. You been doing wrestling practice three nights a week and you said dad I don´t want to miss tournaments. So we started wrestling and you won your first match came up to me and said thanks for letting me be a winner dad . I´m not a quitter for quitting baseball dad I´m a winner because I´m a wrestler. That was the start of something really special.. I love you son you´ll forever be missed and your always on my mind.

Sweet Corey Boy. I have been finding pictures of you shared by others. Saving them on my phone. Looking at you and telling you how much you are loved.

Of course, everyone here is very sad. We all know you are in a better place. For me, I just keep saying you are safe, you are at peace. You are protecting all of us left behind.

Please visit us! Any little sign. I walk every day, and remember all the things you ever said to me. Mostly I remember, "I love you, Mema".

I know you are with family and friends. That brings me comfort. I am sure I will see you again one day.

Please send a breeze, or a whisper, or even a loud bang of thunder. I miss you.

Kisses on your face, Corey Boy.

Love, Mema

Corey Boy. I had an appointment today. I drove past the park where we had all the birthday parties. I cried, but reminded myself of those comforting words, "He is in a better place". You are now safe, which is most important to me. You were always strong here in the physical world! But you know how a grandmother can worry. You are now in glorious Heaven, which is beautiful, serene, safe and above all it is perfect.

Please remember to visit those here that are hurting. Any little sign would be much appreciated. I am sure you are being welcomed by many family and friends. By now you are probably " chillin" like your Dad said. Guess you have met your Papa Tom. He passed long before you were born, but you, your dad, and Thomas were all named after him.

Oh, I saw your slideshow. It was powerful, so well done. I was able to capture some screenshots. More reminders of you that I now have on my phone. Such a handsome young man. I know you are stunning with your angel wings!

I won't nag about wanting to hear from you often. Just do what you can to send signs. I love you, always have and always will. Kisses on your face! Mema

I held you my sweetheart two minutes after you were born. I have my own memories of you with Gram, on the magic carpet. You liked mac and cheese, pizza and popcorn as a small child. Will never forget you and your cousins playing in the pool, and running thru my house soaking wet. I know your love for Brady, your first brother. As years went by Andrea gave you Madi and Sydney, your momma gave you Mia and Auggie. You were blessed with love from a large blended family. You are in a better place. Mostly you are safe, which comforts me. You have family there. Gram and Autumn Rose, family from your Papa Robert. You will be held close! Remember your uncles and cousins who are in pain. They need you to send a sign or a Sutter cut. Send a breeze to your momma, dad and Andrea. They need it! You will meet new friends, people you did not know here. You will bond and share Corey Boy stories. Please remember me fondly when you think back to your time here. Papa Felix loved you, too. Please visit us in the special way that angels do. I will be expecting you to talk to me. I know you will be "chillin" but get out and see the sights. Learn the ropes. Find the best spots. Be ready to show me around when I arrive. Love you always, Corey Boy. Mema

Corey, Wow!! You are so loved always and forever. You have a big family and many friends who love and care about you. It's so sad that you were taken so soon. I know you were at the car wash watching everyone come together because of everyones love for you. Now you will be watching and giving your loved ones a sense that you're right there. All the pictures of you and Brady are adorable.
You will be sorely missed.
