Daniel Desmond Obituary

Daniel J. Desmond III passed away at his home in Yuba City on Wed March 22nd. Dan was born in San Francisco on July 3rd, 1936 to Daniel "Joe" Desmond and Corinne Marie Fastrie.

He grew up in a big family in Atherton, Ca with his sisters, Pat, Mimi, Laurie, Kathy and Lila and brothers Nick and Danny. Dan attended high school at Bellarmine Jesuit High School and College at Menlo College then University of Colorado, Boulder.

Dan moved to the Yuba Sutter Area in 1960 and married Laurie Loise Michaels. Dan and Laurie lived in District 10 and raised four children Joe, Mike, Pete and Fritze. Early on, Dan farmed prunes and walnuts while he worked with his father "Joe" in the family furniture business (Richardsons Furniture). Dan's time in the furniture business led Dan to follow his passion for interior design and start his own company, Daniel Desmond and Associates in 1970. Dan did work locally, in the bay area as well as in the Squaw Valley - Tahoe City area where he had a satellite office. Most of his projects were commercial businesses and included work at Rideout Hospital, the Packard Library in Marysville, Frank M. Booth Headquarters, Nexus Shampoo Headquarters in Santa Barbara as well as the remodel of Pasquini's restaurant in Live Oak.

Dan loved get-togethers with friends and family and especially enjoyed skiing trips to the family cabin in Kingvale and trips to the beach in Aptos, Laguna Beach and Christmas trips to Baja. Dan loved all of his grandchildren very much and took his grandchildren DJ, Lunden and Carly on trips to Europe and to New England. Dan was a past member of the Flamingo Duck Club where he introduced his boys to duck hunting. Dan was involved in the community as a member of Rotary and the Yuba Sutter Arts Council.

He is survived by his ex-wife Laure Desmond, his four children Daniel "Joe" Desmond, Michael Desmond (Melissa), Peter Desmond (Shalena), Fritzie Rhody (Rick), Sisters: Sr. Patricia Desmond, Mimi Mathews (Ed), Laurie Hildreth (Jim), Kathy Fransden (Mark), Lila French (Biff) and brother Danny Desmond. Grand Children: Joseph, Carly, Lunden, DJ, Pierce, Chad, Jess, Olivia, Ella and Alexa. As well as, his faithful Labrador Kobe. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Nicholas Desmond.

He will be dearly missed.
