Gary Duck Obituary

Gary Dwain Duck, 82, passed away on December 16, 2022. Gary was born on December 4, 1940, in Amarillo, Texas, to his parents Virgil and Lucille Duck.

When he was 17 he decided he wanted to join the Air Force and after basic training was stationed at Yokota AB in Japan as a Munitions Maintenance Mechanic. He met his first wife, Judy, in Japan and they were married and had two daughters. His next assignment was at Lowrey AFB in Denver, Colorado, where he and his wife were divorced.

In 1963, he met Lorna and they were married in 1964. He served 21 years in the Air Force during which time he was stationed with Lorna in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; Panama Canal; Clinton Sherman AFB, Oklahoma; Upper Heyford, England; Vogelweh, Germany, and finally Beale AFB, CA. During the 21 years he was also sent by himself to Nakhon Phanom, Thailand; Vietnam, Iran, and George AFB, California. He loved the Air Force but wanted to spend more time with his family and since his next assignment would have been another year overseas by himself decided it was time. Gary retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1978.

Following his retirement there wasn't a big demand by the airlines for Munitions Maintenance; therefore, Gary went to work as Shop Foreman for Dick's Body Shop in Yuba City. Seven years later he left there and went to work for Bill Hamon Toyota/Lincoln/Mercury dealership as the Service Manager. He worked there until he was required to retire due to heart attacks and health issues. After his retirement he worked at collecting old cars, radio-controlled airplanes, panning for gold, and coins.

Being in the military Gary and Lorna developed a love of traveling and seeing new places. They traveled every chance they got and were usually joined by Gary's brother and his wife, Roy and Jennie Duck. They traveled to Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Egypt, Dubai, Wales, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Spain, Italy, China, Alaska and Canada and all of the islands of Hawaii at least once and oftentimes more. In addition, they traveled around the states visiting relatives and friends.

Gary was predeceased by his father, Virgil; mother, Lucille; and brother Butch. Gary is survived by Lorna, his wife of 58 years; 2 brothers, Roy and Danny; 4 children, Gary Robert, Tammy, Sheryl and Caryl; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Gary will be interred at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA, on December 29, 2022, with military funeral honors. This will be a service for family members only.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022, at 12:00 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1000 D Street, Marysville, CA. Lunch will immediately follow. Come join us and bring your precious memories. Funeral arrangements were made with the Chapel of the Twin Cities.

Gary painted my 57 Thunderbird, frame off, at the Yuba City body shop in the early 80's. We both purchased new C4 Corvettes in the mid 80's. Gary was a great guy, honest, hard working. Rest in peace Gary.

I bought my first Toyota pick up from Gary. in the early 70s. He became a friend when the salesman that I had talked to called me an Oakie...so I went straight to Gary and I paid cash for my truck and then we were like Father and Son for many years. His Son Gary has been a friend of mine for years as well.
We want to send our condolences to all of the family.
Rest in peace Gary.
