Jimmy Taylor Obituary

Jimmy Lloyd Taylor, passed away peacefully at the age of 88, on October 4, 2024. He was born on June 14, 1936, in San Angelo, TX, to Charlie and Irene Taylor.

Jimmy was the fifth of seven children, and spent his early years living in TX, OR, and CA. He settled in California in 1962. He was a beloved resident of Sutter County, where he spent 62 years, primarily residing in Robbins, CA, and Rio Oso, CA.

Jimmy enlisted in the US Army in 1954. He served honorably for three years, before being discharged in 1957. During his time in the service, Jimmy was stationed at Camp Beale, where he helped build airstrips for what would become Beale AFB.

He worked tirelessly during the 1955 flood, providing aid with levee work, evacuations, and cleanup. He also drove a train and worked to repair steam locomotives. During his service, his specialty was as a blacksmith, and he was recognized as a skilled sharpshooter.

On March 5, 1958, Jimmy married the love of his life, Kathleen (Schroeder) Taylor. Together, they celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage before Kathy went home to be with the Lord.

Their bond was one to admire-they were always looking out for each other, providing for one another, and loving deeply. If Jimmy was home, whenever it was time to prepare a meal, he would be right beside Kathy, helping in the kitchen and sharing in all their daily tasks. They truly did everything together.

After his military service, Jimmy embraced farming - a profession that became his lifelong passion. He took pride in growing various crops and primarily focused on rice farming in the Sutter Basin, working for A. J. Richter Farms & the Leathers family.

"I'm a farmer, and I just like to watch things grow" Jimmy would say. And grow he did. He had a natural green thumb and produced countless bountiful harvests. He retired in 2012, at the age of 76, after decades of hard work and dedication.

Alongside his dedication to farming, Jimmy was a devoted family man. He and his wife, Kathy, raised five boys, and instilled in them great family values, as well as a committed work ethic.

Family was at the center of everything Jimmy did, and he took immense pride in watching his family grow. He was their provider and protector, cherishing every moment spent with them.

While raising his family, Jimmy volunteered as a coach for South Sutter Little League, for many years. He spent countless hours organizing fundraisers and dances at the Robbins Community Hall. He treasured time on the baseball field, watching his children play, and sharing the joy of the game with others.

In addition to his farming and community involvement, Jimmy was a member of the Yuba City Moose Lodge where he enjoyed attending events and socializing with friends. In 2019, he joined Wheatland Community Fellowship, so that he could grow in grace and knowledge of the Lord.

Jimmy was happiest when camping, fishing, and spending time outdoors with his family. Most of his vacations always included one or all these activities. After his retirement, he ventured out and went on a couple of cruises to Mexico and Alaska, creating more precious memories with his loved ones.

Jimmy is survived by his four sons, Ronald (Karen) of Cathey's Valley, CA, Lloyd (Tina) of Rio Oso, CA, Douglas (Cheryl) of Folsom, CA, and Jimmy (Wendi) of Marysville, CA; a daughter-in-law, Tina Taylor of Roseville, CA; his brothers, Clayton Taylor, and Dean Taylor; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren on the way. His family was his pride and joy, and he loved nothing more than watching it grow!

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Irene (Barrington) Taylor; his beloved wife, Kathleen; his son, Dennis Taylor; his three brothers, Chuck Taylor, Mel "Smokey" Taylor, and Carl Taylor; his sister, Elsie Sweetwood; and his granddaughter, Tami Taylor.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 11AM, at Wheatland Community Fellowship Church of God, 4753 Wheatland Road, Wheatland, CA. Pastor John Burns will be officiating.

Jimmy will be laid to rest alongside his forever bride at Fairview Cemetery in Rio Oso, CA. Arrangements are under the direction of Lakeside Colonial Chapel.

So many fond memories to look back on as I was growing up through the years. Croquet on the back lawn, gutting fish in the pump house, riding lawn mowers, making potatoes together at Thanksgiving. Always hearing the cuckoo clocks going off in the house. Parking it on the green and watching whatever western happened to be on tv. I know you are reunited with my dad and grandma so I will try not to be sad and just remember all the great times we had together. One of the most special memories I have was when you got to meet my first born Dylan when he was one day old when you guys visited in Montana. Love you lots give my dad and grandma a hug from me.
