It wasn't until I faced with my own mortality (battling cancer) that I reflected back to the people that were instrumental in making me the person I am today. As a student at Encina high school in the early to mid seventies I was in his class every year. The last couple of years it was as a teachers assistant and president of the auto club. I have fond memories of the Wednesday night high school drags at Sacramento Raceway and the trophies he won in his beautiful GTO. Also the many performance cars we built in his classes. It wasn't until later on in my life that I realized that not only was he preparing us for a future in automotive field, he also prepared us in life. At least it was that way for me. He always emphasized if you stick to the basics you'll fined the problem that eludes you. In other words don't over think it. I found over the years that this always seemed to helped me in my career first in automotive repair and a little later as a maintenance mechanic at a propulsion manufacture and a pharmaceutical manufacture in the Sacramento area. I have for quit some time now hope to be able to find him and thank him for that. I'll always be grateful for his influence in my life. It's with a heavy heart that I thank him and say goodbye this way. God bless you and keep you and God bless your family too.
Sincerely, Dan

Mr. Schuler was an incredible teacher. I've lived out of the area and just learned of his passing. He influenced many and he with Mr. Ash were a lot of fun! May God watch over him and his family always!

Mr. Schuler was my auto shop teacher at Encina High School. I can't even begin to estimate the thousands upon thousands of dollars I've saved over the years by being able to work on my own vehicles because of what Mr. Schuler taught me. He also put a great deal of emphasis on safety and keeping tools clean and properly put away when not in use – habits that have stayed with me to this day. I clearly remember his truck, Old Grey, with its Y-block Ford V8 engine. He let the students practice doing tune-ups on it. I will never forget Mr. Schuler and how he impacted my life. I extend my most heartfelt condolences to his family. – Mike Pittsley, Encina class of 1971

I taught with Brownie at Encina - he was truly a great teacher. Memories flood back here - Capones, Old Grey, the world's weirdest pontoon boat with a Chevy 327, Ladoga, Reno Fun Train, frogging, Helen's, the Dixie Jubilee, Forest Hill cemetary,he and Carlin's visit to Milwaukee to see me, etc. His life was an adventure and he lived it fully. He's up there enjoying his "Last Hoo Rah" - (they better watch it - it won't be the same with Orlin there) John Knurr - Milwaukee
