Thomas Wesley Greer

1928 - 2018

Thomas Wesley Greer passed away peacefully at home on March 2, 2018. He was born in Los Angeles on June 20, 1928.

Tom was retired from Greer Machinery in Huntington Beach. Greer Machinery is a third-generation family owned and operated company, started by Tom's father, Irvin, in Los Angeles.

He was involved with drag racing in the early '60's. The Greer-Black-Prudhomme dragster made racing history by running in 241 events and winning 237 of them. The dragster was in the Petersen Auto Museum in Los Angeles and Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona. Today, the car is owed by a private collector of legendary cars and is in his private museum in Beverly Hills.

Tom was an active member of the Huntington Beach Elks and an avid golfer, belonging to
several golf clubs and played in tournaments all over the Western States. He enjoyed dirt biking, snow skiing, all water sports and raced drag boats in the '70's. He loved jazz music, concerts, dancing and was an avid fan of USC football. He and Lynda loved to travel and traveled extensively. Tom was very adventuresome, loved a challenge and lived life to the fullest with no regrets. Tom served in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II and was very proud of his service.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lynda (Van Winkle); daughter, Evelyn Denise Glick; two sons, Thomas Irvin Greer (Michelle) and Bradford Wesley Greer (Gina); two stepsons, Rod Schmidgall and Todd Schmidgall; six granddaughters, Kelly Glick, Ashley, Lauren, Wesley, and Devyn Greer, and Camille Schmidgall; one grandson, Caden Schmidgall and one great granddaughter, Alexandria Denise.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Ruby; and his brother, Bruce.

Tom was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. His charming smile and sense of humor will be forever cherished and he will always be in our hearts.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
