Toni Clark (née Marilyn Louise LeBoeuf) of Sutter, CA, passed away at Woodland Skilled Nursing in Woodland, CA, on March 8, 2023. She was 80 years old.
She is preceded in death by her father, Merrill L. LeBoeuf; her mother, Mildred F.D. LeBoeuf (née Proulx); her brother, Merrill W. LeBoeuf; her son, Eric T. Carson; her husband, Charles (aka Charla) Clark; and her sister, Rosalie A. Dickenson (née LeBoeuf).
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle L. Miller (née Carson) of Citrus Heights, CA; her daughter, Diana Nuttman of Fresno CA; 5 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Marilyn Louise LeBoeuf was born on July 23, 1942, in Sutter County, CA. She married twice; first to David W. Carson of Sacramento, CA, on April 7, 1962. They had two children; Eric (1962-2003) and Michelle (b. 1964). Marilyn and David divorced in April of 1969. Marilyn had another child from a different relationship, Toni J. Carson (now Diana Nuttman, b. 1967). Marilyn married a second time to Charles F. Clark (1930-2013) on July 22, 1991.
Marilyn was a prolific artist, particularly with pastels and watercolors, and was a former art judge for the annual County fair. She also enjoyed singing and worked professionally as a lounge singer in her younger years. She changed her name to Toni in 1970, following the death of her closest friend, Janette. She chose the name Toni because it was special to her.
Toni was a successful businesswoman from the 1970s to the 2000s, having made a living as a cosmetologist and wig maker. She owned salons in Reno and Marysville and even met her second husband, Charles (aka Charla, a transgender woman), at her salon in Reno. Later known as the "Wig Wiz," she developed a very lucrative career as a prosthetic wig-maker and stylist with her online business, Alternatives 2000. She and Charles ran the business together and were well-known members of the communities of Sutter and Yuba City. They were well-liked and were local celebrities as a result of their appearance on a national daytime talk show in the 1990s. The show had invited them to discuss their relationship, which was considered controversial at the time.
Following Charles' death in 2013, Toni's health declined and she moved to Woodland Skilled Nursing in Woodland, CA. During her time there, she easily made friends with the staff and fellow residents. She was passionate about cats, having owned several cats before moving to the skilled nursing facility. She entertained herself by chatting online, making memes, playing games, learning new things, watching On-Demand content, and keeping in touch with friends and family. Through her internet connection, she was able to access the rest of the world, which encouraged her and elevated her quality of life.
Toni was cremated and her ashes will be spread according to her wishes with her closest family members in attendance. Her celebration of life will be a gathering open to any family and friends who wish to attend and share stories of remembrance and how she touched their lives.
