William Grove Obituary

William "Bill" Grove passed quietly into eternity while sleeping on Saturday morning, June 28, 2025.

He was born in Middlesex England to Eldon W. and E. Margaret Grove, where his father was stationed with the Air Force.

Bill came to the U.S. at 8 years of age and lived with his family in Marysville, CA.

He graduated from Marysville High School and Yuba College and earned his bachelor's degree at Sacramento State University. He later graduated from the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA.

He served proudly at Sutter Co. Sheriff's Dept. for over 32 years in various roles, reaching the rank of Undersheriff in 1999.

Billy had a deep appreciation for the people he worked with and the community served by the Sheriff's Department.

He was a man of courage and devotion and always carried an ability to deliver a quick response to generate laughter and lighten any moment.

His life was always shared with the loyal companionship of a dog. He was a canine handler and trainer at the Sheriff's Dept.

He later enjoyed his retrievers, Blondie and Lucy and took Lucy to a national level competition. His last companion, Little Ricky, was strictly a lap and house dog that completely won him over.

Bill was married to Debbie for 40 years, and they shared many adventures together, especially vacations at Ft. Bragg, CA, with cherished friends.

He was a man of the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish whenever he got the chance. Debbie knew to make no plans for him each fall. Those months he spent with his life-long friends combing the mountains.

Bill and Debbie moved to Idaho in 2017, where they made a new home and great new friends. Bill loved finding new hunting grounds and lakes to fish.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; brother, Paul (Arcie); nephews, Travis (Sara and family), Peter (Amanda and family); and dear niece, Meriah.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Evelyn.

In keeping with Bill's wishes, a private cremation will be held in Idaho.

A casual gathering of friends and family to be held in Yuba City, CA, celebrating Bill's life is being planned. Details will be shared in the near future.

Billy was my rock and best friend in life. Even as a young person he treated me with love and kindness always the protector and teacher.
In our youth he taught me to fish, hunt and respect the outdoors with a passion unrivaled. I always looked up to him and was so proud of his dedication and accomplishments and how so many people liked him.
Billy´s story is larger than life to me and I miss him so much.
I am so grateful we shared a close bond and were able to talk to each other, even his last day!
I love you Billy.
