Dr. Beck was a wonderful doctor. He took great care of me. I was dealing with some health issues and was scared so I cancelled my appointment. Well who did I see at Walmart that same day. lol He said why didn't you come today? I told him I got scared of what you would tell me. He told me call in the morning and we'll get you in and I'll take care of you. He was amazing doctor. The very best there ever was. Sending heartfelt condolences and many prayers to his family. God Bless You All.

Sincerely sympathy. Robert Digman, my husband, treasured John, first as a serious chemistry student (John had lasting memories of that!), next as a student who approached life differently (that may have involved motorcycle rides in unusual places), then the determination of pursuing a dream in medical school, to a long commitment as an Alderson Broaddus alum and a deeply treasured friend. Sadly, we lost contact in Robert last years.

John Becker was first and foremost a true mensch. He was a great OBGYN/Baharacer/mechanic and father because, as test pilots put it, he could "maintain an even strain" under any circumstances. John and my father, JC O'Dell, met over radio-controlled airplanes and each discovered a long-lost brother they never knew they had.
John's wife, Marty, and my mom, Eleanor, bonded in a similar manner. Strangers from a strange land finally found native guides that could explain "chicken fried steak" and where were the beans in chili?
But the humor cut nothing ways.
When my dad finally agreed to hit the ER with a bad kidney stone, the nurse checking him in asked for his Primary Care Physician. My dad answered truthfully: "Dr. John Becker." "Uh, I think you are confused.
Dr. Becker is a GYNOB."
"Yes, I know that, and he's my primary care doc." She looked at my dad for a long 10 seconds and finally asked "Is there 'something special' we need to know about?"
At that point, John came walking down the corridor and walked over to JC. "What are you doing here?" "Feels like a kidney stone." "Oh not
again! Why hasn't he been checked in yet?"
"He keeps insisting
you are his primary care doctor." "So?" "Is there *something special* we should put on his chart?"
John stops and stares for
a slow 3-count. "No! He's close personal friend and I'm simply his primary physician!
It looks like room 3 is open. Come on Jay. And if someone can get their imagination back under control, I do need an assist in Room 3!!"
We all loved John and he leaves an enormous hole in our collective heart. But he was
no longer able to live on his terms, and that was tough to know. He seldom compromised "quality of life" and the endpoint was nothing less than viscously cruel.
So John! maybe you can finish the overhaul of the beautiful MG-TC
factory racer!
And blessings of Eternal Peace upon you and Marty, from Eleanor, JC, Mike, and Kevin O'Dell
