Michael Joffer Obituary
Michael Joffer, 46, of Tea, SD died July 1, 2013 in Sioux Falls. He was born April 17, 1967 and graduated from Parker High School in 1986. He received a degree in Criminal Justice from USD. He married Kim Wolthuis in 1993. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Vermillion where he served as a police officer on the Vermillion Police Department. The family moved to Tea in 2003. Shortly thereafter, he began his employment as a civil service processor and later a deputy for the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office. He also worked part-time as a Transport Officer for the Federal Marshall's Office. He was a member of Deputies Association and Fraternal Order of Police. In 2011, he was the recipient of the "FOP" Cecil Fischer Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award. He also drove limos for Stellar Limousine in Sioux Falls.
Surviving are his wife, Kim; sons, Brandon and Kaleb, at home in Tea; his parents, Earl and Shirley Joffer, Parker; siblings, Kevin (Cindy) Joffer, Elk Point, Mark (Lisa) Joffer, Parker, Sherry (Doug) DeNeui, Chancellor and Brent Joffer, Brookings; mother-in-law, Bonnie Wolthuis, Tea; sister-in-law, Kathy (Kevin) Tyler, DuBois, PA; and brothers-in-law, Todd Wolthuis, Tea and Terry (Kelly) Wolthuis, Rapid City. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tea. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Monday with the family present beginning at 6:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at Trinity Lutheran Church.
