Rita Rookstool Obituary

RITA MAE ROOKSTOOL Rita Mae (Servaes) Rookstool, 73, of Topeka, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. She was born July 2, 1950, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of Andy and Florence (VanHorn) Servaes. She was a graduate of Atchison High School. Rita was Shawnee County Treasurer for 12 years and was later employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Topeka until retiring. She was a member of Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene in Topeka. Rita married David Rookstool on September 25, 2003. He survives in Topeka. Other survivors include two step-children, David Michael Rookstool of Topeka, and Jennifer Rookstool-Beaney of Tacoma, WA; seven step-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Ragsdale of Topeka and Dorothy Lee of Washington; three brothers, Larry, Phil, and LeRoy Servaes of Atchison, KS; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepson, Buckstin Rookstool; and four sisters, Donna Urban, Mary Ann Kahling, Janet Lee, and Carol Noll; and three brothers, Gene, Richard, and Louis Servaes. Rita was strong in her faith and loved spending time with her family. She was also an animal lover, especially horses. She enjoyed playing cards, dominos, gardening, and was always helping people. Honoring her request, cremation is planned. A celebration of her new life ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene, 3501 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, Kansas. Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St, Topeka, KS 66604.
