Rita Mae Thurn

RITA MAE THURN Rita Mae (Enzbrenner) Thurn, 91, of Atchison, KS, died Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Atchison Medicalodge. Rita was born February 20, 1934, in Atchison, KS to the late Benedict and Emma (Fuhrman) Enzbrenner. After graduating in 1952 from Huron High School, she attended Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing in St. Joseph, MO where she earned a degree as a Registered Nurse. For many years she was an OB nurse at Atchison Hospital before retiring from Atchison Home Health. Rita married the late Donald Thurn on November 22, 1955. In 1997, after retirement, the couple moved to Benton, KS to be near family. While living in Benton, she was a member of St Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Andover, KS, and the Benton Lions Club. Rita's favorite things to do were carp fishing, going to casinos both locally and in Las Vegas, and especially attending the grandchildren's sporting events. Survivors include son Ben (Beth) Thurn, daughter Kathy (Herb) Pello, grandchildren: Brad Licavoli, Brian Thurn, Jennifer Thurn, AJ Pello, Mike Pello, Matt Pello, and nine great-grandchildren. The Missouri/Kansas Memorial Honor Guard will hold a Nightingale Tribute at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2025, for nurses in the area at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with a parish rosary to follow at 7:30 p.m. with visitation ending at 8:30 p.m. The Mass for Christian Burial with be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 26, 2025, at St. Louis Church, Good Intent with Fr. Roopesh Govindu as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the St. Louis Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Croix Hospice or St. Louis Cemetery and may be sent in the care of Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Condolences may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.
