Edith Luce Obituary

Athens Edie Luce, 78, of Athens Ohio - passed away on Sunday August 17th, 2025, after a broken hip and complicating illness.

She was preceded in death by her father Basil Hall, her mother Nancy Lockhart, and parents-in-law Gerry and Marion Luce.

Edie attended Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio where she met and married Thom Luce, the love of her life. They celebrated 56 years together in May.

Along with her family life Edie enjoyed creating art with batik, weaving and painting tiny, beautiful flowers on cookies. She was an avid reader, with science fiction being her favorite genre. She and Thom were members of the Columbus Broadway Series and loved to experience fine dining together.

Edie was well loved at Ohio University's Alden Library where she worked in the Southeast Asia Collection and other departments for 35 years. She was a friend of the Open Doors organization and played euchre in a group with other university friends.

Edie loved to travel the world, especially places where she could learn more about her favorite thing to do, cooking amazing world foods. She was the best cook most of us ever knew. She gained great joy from cooking special birthday treats and meals for her friends and colleagues.

She will be greatly missed by her loving husband Thom, her daughter Cassandra (Eric) Hoagland, granddaughter Shannon (Brian) Folaron, grandsons Robbie and Thomas Hoagland, her sister Kate (Andy) Legg, sister Caroline Lockhart and brother Russell Lockheart, her sweet dog Elphaba, and many many more relatives, friends and colleagues.
