Although we weren't actually related, Ellery and Lila became aunt and uncle to me. They shared their home, their family, and their hearts with everyone they met. I will always remember Ellery as he perched his glasses on his nose and looked around the seder table, opening the Hagaddah to begin and welcoming all of us with his smile, his wit, and his strong sense of tradition. He was a true educator: teaching by example, patience, and compassion. My sense of Judaism is largely informed by his influence and I think of him especially during Passover. Sending love and hugs to Pam, Debbie, and his extended family.

Ellery stayed at my house in California with Aunt Lila when I was around l2 years old. They were fairly newly married and seemed very happy together. Aunt Lila said that Ellery reminded her of her dear brother, Irv in many ways, including looks. My father and Ellery did have many similarities. He was a wonderful professor, writer, father, husband and friend. I wish I could have known him better but I lived in California and he and Aunt Lila were in Ohio. I heard many wonderful stories about "The Cabin" and how beautiful it was. To Pam and Debbie, Susie (my sister,) and I send you prayers for healing from the grief you are feeling today. We lost our father, Irving, almost one year ago and each day we miss him more. I am sure you feel the same way, losing your dearest father and not too long ago your mother. Please send me your addresses. I would like to send a card and make a donation in your father's name. Love, Barbara Gunther and Susan Parks , Irving's daughters.

I will forever be grateful to Ellery for the role he played in establishing the Honors Tutorial College at Ohio University. The educational experiences he was instrumental in creating left an indelible mark on me. Thank you, Mr. Golos.
