Emmett was a great friend and companion during our years growing up in McArthur. Many a day during the summer we would go down to Brown's Pond with a can of worms and our fishing rods to spend the afternoon in the sun and fishing. Once we even ventured to the pond during the winter to ice skate with me borrowing one of his sisters skates. In our high school years Emmett anchored the right side of our offensive line and could always be counted on for the key block. We grew apart in our post high school days as my assignments took me away from McArthur but I will never forget the good times that we had together. He will be missed.

An impelling physical stature who commanded immediate respect, contagious smile, gregarious laugh, engaging conversationalist with superior intellect, confident and decisive decision maker, excellent and willing teacher, role model and mentor, enthusiastic, energetic, humble, respectful to others, dedicated to family, impeccable moral focus. A true leader, colleague, ally and most important friend who I will miss greatly. A life well lived. I was blessed to have known Emmett Conway Jr. With my deepest sincere sympathy.

My heart is breaking for Adam, Laura and Will and their families, as well as Emmett's wife, siblings, and many friends. I met Emmett Jr. when I was just 11 years old. He and his first wife Cathy lived across the street from my childhood home. Many, many days and evenings of my teen years were spent in their home babysitting their children. I was babysitting when Laura fell off the chair and broke her collarbone, when Laura and Will were both sick and Cathy and her dad had to rush Will to the ER with an extreme fever and Cathy trusted me to stay with Laura and give her ice baths to bring her fever down. When I was in college at OU, they drove to Athens to pick me up so I could babysit in a hotel room while they attended a wedding. When I graduated college, Emmett offered me my first "real" job, as a bookkeeper for his new startup company, Superior Hardwoods. I worked for him there for 8 years before moving on to the OVRDC for the wood industry, which lead me to working for the Ohio Forestry Association, the Paul Bunyan Show, the Game of Logging and with the Loggers Chapters in Ohio. As an OFA staff member, I nominated Emmett to the OFA Board of Directors. I was delighted when he accepted and got involved with the OFA. I moved on to work for the Mead Paper Company and loss touch with Emmett at that time. However, I have looked up to him like a brother since I was 11 years old (52 years), even to calling for his advice during tough times. Sadly, the last time I saw him was years ago at his dad's funeral. Emmett Sr. was a special man too, and it is understandable where Emmett got his love of the forest. Time moves on so fast, and it is easy to lose touch, but those that mentor us, and care for us, stay in our hearts forever. I will miss him. May God comfort you all.

Emmett, a gentle giant, who always welcomed me during my stay with Connie and him. I will always treasure our morning coffee on the porch, before you would head off to work and leave us girls to enjoy our time. My God sustain all of your loved ones during this time of grief. Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Rest in Peace my friend. Deb

The world will be a lesser place with the loss of Emmitt. He was an icon of Forestry in Ohio. He worked hard at making people feel special and part of Ohio’s forestry community. His dedication to the Ohio Forestry Association can be matched by none as he built the OFA Paul Bunyan Show to its current stature. He received many awards for his work and his generosity and with each one he was always humbled, appreciative and ever so modest. It was always apparent to me that he felt more pleasure in giving awards, rather than receiving them. He has been recognized by a number of groups and agencies over the years for his hard work and enthusiasm and will be missed by all. His infectious laughter can never be replaced and his pragmatic common sense approach to complex issues were inspiring lessons for all.
May you rest in peace my friend and it is hoped our paths will cross again.

I was a forester for Superior Hardwoods in the 1990’s and early 2000’s and got to know Emmett very well during that time, I learned a tremendous amount from him, more than you could ever learn in college. One thing he loved was a trophy size white oak log, it would always spawn a lengthy and intimate conversation, much like a story coming from someone who just harvested a big buck. In my experience, his passion was always at the logging end of his business, it seemed that it took him away for a moment, away from the daily stressors of the manufacturing. A couple things I’ll always remember about my time with him was his contagious laugh, that he made work fun, and how enthusiastically he would greet me and others. To his family, please accept my condolences as I know you are grieving a tremendous loss.
