Larry Clary Obituary

McArthur Larry E. Clary, 85, of McArthur, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Jenkins Care Community in Wellston. He was born May 24, 1940, in Eagle Mills, Vinton County, Ohio, son of the late Rev. Otis and Pearl Tatman Clary. Larry was married for 50 years to the late Beverly "Kay" Haburn Clary, who passed away July 19, 2016.

Larry retired after 32 years of service as the Vinton County Treasurer and was a United States Army Medic during the Korean Conflict. He had the privilege of taking part in the 100th Honor Flight with United States Veterans. He graduated from Allensville High School in 1958 and was one of the first EMT's in the State of Ohio. In 1985, he was the President of the County Treasurers Association of Ohio and was on the McArthur Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years where he served as the Assistant Chief for 20 years. Larry was a 55-year member of the Delta Masonic Lodge #207 F&AM in McArthur, a member of the Trowell Chapter, the Trowell Council, the Jackson Commandery, the Knight of the York Cross of Honor, Aladdin Temple Shrine and the Clan 8 Hillbillies. He was a member and past President of the McArthur Eagles AERIE #2279, a member of the McArthur VFW Post #5299, a 45-year member of the Wellston American Legion Post #303, a former truck driver, a former employee of the McArthur Water Department and a former member of the Board of Public Affairs. Larry thoroughly enjoyed playing euchre and watching sports; he was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Vinton County Vikings. Larry was a former Vinton County Little league baseball and basketball coach and was also the PTO president of the former McArthur Elementary.

He is survived by his children, Michele (John) Royster, Genia (Bryan) Bledsoe and Travis (Tara) Clary all of McArthur; grandchildren, McKenna (Bo) McIntire, Luke (Lacie Williams) Bledsoe, Tucker Clary and Kyndell and Evan Gall, all of McArthur; sister, Sharon (Lundy) Ross of Adelphi; brother, Otis Clary Jr. of Laurelville; several nieces and nephews and a countless number of friends who were like family.

In addition to his parents and wife, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, James Clary.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Monday, August 11, 2025, in the Calvary Assembly of God, 63849 US Highway 50, McArthur, with Rev. Jim Taylor and Pastor Carl Radcliff officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur, with military graveside services being conducted by the United States Army and the Wellston American Legion. Visitation will be held at the Calvary Assembly of God on Sunday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Starting at 7 p.m., on Sunday evening, there will be services held by the McArthur Eagles, Delta Masonic Lodge #207 F&AM and the McArthur Fire Department.

Arrangements are by Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Larry E. Clary to the McArthur Fire Department, 303 W. High St., McArthur, Ohio 45651 or to the Vinton County Athletic Boosters, P.O. Box 293, McArthur, Ohio 45651.
