I am sorry to hear about Freddy. This may sound crazy but my name is Alfred 'Freddie' Mendes also. I grew up in Barrington RI. I have been getting mixed up with another Alfred Mendes for years. I know he lived in Mass but not sure where. Maybe Fall River or New Bedford. I reacently was told that a Alfred Mendes lived on Pocahontas ST in Seekonk Ma
That is only a few miles from where I grew up. I would like to contact one of Freddy's relatives to see if he could be the other person.
Thank You
Fred Mendes

My deepest sympathy to Freddy's family. Freddy was my first best friend going all the way back to 4th grade. I was very moved by the tribute, and I realized how it had been at least 35 years since I last saw him, but I have vivid memories of him that I will always keep in my heart: like how he used to punch me when he passed out papers in 4th grade or us stealing cherries off that tree staining our clothes from filling our pockets, or me sending him cigs when he was at summer camp and getting in trouble with his mother, and of course the Whalers Drum and Bugle Corp. I think the last time I saw him was when we were in the military when Mikey and Freddy came to visit me in Washington. I am smiling now at the memories he gave me and all the times we all hung out at Dolly and Georgette's house. Rest in peace Freddy. You were a great friend, and I am glad I had you in my life while we were growing up.

My sincere and deepest sympathy to Freddie's family and friends who loved and shared fond memeories of him. I have known Freddy for some years, as we grew up in New Bedford together. I use to run into him when I went home for the 4th of July but missed seeing him these last few years. I will truly miss him and his laughter. I am thankful for the memories. He will be truly missed!

Ann and Chris,

Freddy was a man that touched so many of our lives. This is a great testament to how he lived his life. He was truly one of a kind. I have so many found memories of the years we worked together. It was always an adventure with Freddy. He had the patience of a saint when he taught me how to play golf for the first time. (all though he did keep telling me to pick up the ball and come on). I know Freddy is in a good place now and still watching down on you a Chris. My thoughts and prayers and with you both.

As one grows older one realizes your best friends were your childhood friends. Climbing trees, sneaking apples, making our own toys, playing games, sharing a popsicle, building forts, having genuine innocent fun. I remember it like it was yesterday.

May God Bless his family and may he rest in peace with our Lord in Heaven.
