Ann Murphy Obituary

MURPHY, Ann Parks

Ann Parks Murphy of Atlanta, Georgia, died peacefully on August 2, 2025, at the age of 95 in Buckhead. Ann was born May 21, 1930, in Columbus, Georgia, and was raised in her early childhood along with her sister Faye by their mother, Dorothy Evans. They eventually moved to Marietta, and after high school Ann met her husband of 58 years, former WWII navigator Frank D. Murphy. Ann and Frank went on to have four children: Frank D. Murphy Jr, Ann Elizabeth Murphy Melas, Patricia Murphy Rosser, and Michael Kevin Murphy. Together they raised their family in Sandy Springs, before moving to Saudi Arabia, in the 70s, where Frank was an executive at Lockheed Martin. While living overseas their love of travel blossomed, eventually visiting all seven continents.

One of Ann's most cherished accomplishments was that she and Frank were founding members of the Cherokee Town and Country Club on West Paces Ferry Road in Buckhead.

Throughout her life, Ann has been a devoted patron to numerous charities and institutions in the Atlanta area, including Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, The Society of Vincent de Paul, and the Marist School in Brookhaven, where Frank was an alumnus. Ann and Frank were the largest donors to the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force, located in Pooler, Georgia.

When not doting on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she loved reading, spending time with her family, and traveling. She was generous, had a wonderful laugh that could light up a room and never met a stranger. During her eighties, she and her daughter, Elizabeth, took twenty cruises all around the world.

She is survived by her her children, Elizabeth Melas, Kevin Murphy; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 8, 2025, from 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock, at H.M.Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd., NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. The Funeral Mass will be Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 11 o'clock, at The Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta, GA 30305. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy., Sandy Springs, GA 30328.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum or the 100th Bomb Group Foundation.
