SCOTT, Berta Wilkes BERTA WILKES SCOTT Berta Wilkes Scott died March 14, at the age of 96. She was the middle child of 10 children born to John David and Sadie Stoudenmire of Lone Star, S.C. She attended the South Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and graduated with honors with an R.N. degree. After working briefly in Savannah, Ga. as a neonatal nurse, she was recruited by the Seaboard Railway as one of its first stewardess-nurses. She moved to New York City and was awarded the trip between New York and Miami. It was in Miami that she met her first husband Ernest O. Wilkes and after their marriage they settled in Coral Gables, Fla., for over 30 years and raised their two children Carolyn Warren and Ernest O. "Buddy" Wilkes, Jr., now of Atlanta. She later returned to nursing as an orthopedic nurse at South Miami Hospital. After her first husband's death she married Dr. Glenn Scott, a University of Miami professor and owner of the Playhouse school. In 2001 she moved to Atlanta to be with her children and resided at St. Anne's Terrace. Other survivors include three granddaughters, Ashley Jordaan of Denver, Colo., Lara Albert of Savannah, Ga., and Courtney Muller of Chattanooga, Tenn., and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held in Adel, Ga., on March 16. A memorial service in Atlanta is planned for March 19 at 1:00 p.m. at Northside United Methodist Chapel, 2799 Northside Dr. N.W.
