This man impacted my life not as a doctor but a thoughtful human being during a time in my life, my son, then 6 years old, had a traumatic brain injury and then ended up with a cyst pressing against his eyeball. I went in for a consult about the cyst and ended up telling Dr Murphy about the trauma my son incurred falling and hitting his head, then Nick my son was about 6 yrs old and lost his entire personality. Everything I know of my son was gone overnight and we didn't know if it would ever come back... Dr. Murphy transformed from a doctor to a "caring person," with his own story about his own major concussion reassuring me all would be just fine... Consequently, Dr. Murphy did preform the surgery, and not only did the surgery come off without a hitch, but... On Denounced to Me there was a major concern of cancer in my sons cyst... Dr. Murphy was kind enough to not startle me with the fact that this cyst might just be cancerous... He called me a week later and reported that he sent off the cyst and no worries it was not cancerous.. And on top of that he wrote of the remainder of my bill at the end of the year.
My very small brush with this amazing human being Brent Murphy, impacted me tremendously at that time, as I was alone with my thoughts about my son's head injury and this amazing man showed compassion and comforted me with his words in a way I needed and will never forget. He wasn't a doctor to me a kind and giving human being that I was blessed to have encountered. Hard to come by in life... I'll never forget this man!

Dr. Murphy performed surgery on my eyes a few years ago when I lived in Georgia. He had a great personality and really knew how to put his patients at ease. I always did recommend him to people. I pray that his family and friends find comfort and ease with the wonderful memories they have of such a fine man.

Dr. Murphy's exceptional skill and professional expertise saved my eyesight. His kindness and patient understanding gave me the courage to continue with hope long after I had given up on the journey. I am so grateful to him and his wonderful staff and deeply saddened by the loss of this amazing physician and friend. I had seen him the week before when he had shown me photos of his new grandson. He was proud of his family and I send to each of you my heartfelt sadness in this loss.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Brent. I was in the same fraternity as Brent and then had the good fortune of rooming with him for two years when I was in law school and he was in med school.
Brent was an absolute joy to be around, and everyone felt it. He was a leader with amazing charisma and he was good to everyone he met. He was two years older than me and he treated me like a little brother--with great care and kindness. He will always be, in my mind, larger than life. A gentleman. An intellectual. A comedian. A friend. My sincere sympathies extend to Brent's wife and children and many friends. This is a great loss to the world.
Forever Thankful to Dr. Murphy

Even after decades of time, my memory of Brent as the commander of our fraternity (Sigma Nu) remains so vivid. Brent was such an inspirational leader who somehow blended an amazing dose of being fun, making being smart look cool, always being principled and leading in a way that created a massive and genuine following.
I remember going to Halls on the River restaurant with over 100 brothers
who proceeded to get into a massive food fight...that i think may have been started by Brent following one of his inspirational speeches. And then somehow he managed to convince the restaurant manager to let us stay and that we were really a good group of folks and that he had everything under control.
There are people who have an impact on your life even though you spend a short time with them. Brent was exactly that for me and so many others!
You will be missed but never forgotten!

Despite the fact that my Brother and I only meet Dr. Murphy earlier this year, we just want to impart our condolences to his family, staff, co-workers and friends. There are just no words to take away the pain but hopefully, knowing just how much he was revered, admired, valued and respected, etc..you can find some comfort during this very difficult time.
Also want to share how we felt comforted during my Brothers initial consultation with Dr. Murphy, he demonstrated empathy and compassion. Granting that my Brother can be a challenging patient, Dr. Murphy respected his concerns and took them into consideration. We appreciated his professionalism and knowledge and truly feel honored to have known him.
God Bless and Be With You.
Continued Prayers and Thoughts, Bob and Brenda

I've been a patient of Dr. Murphy for close to a year. He performed two eye surgeries for me during this time. He was knowledgeable, professional, and caring and I liked that he always called me by my first name which made me feel like we were also friends. I was shocked to hear of his passing and my deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, and his dedicated staff. He will be greatly missed.

I have only had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Murphy on the phone, but never the opportunity to meet him. I was fortunate enough to have met Mrs. Murphy during the solar eclipse in 2017 because one of our best friends and their daughter, Natalie, had invited us to their lake house to watch the event. I have been friends with Natalie for several years and feel as if I've known her family just as long. My heart breaks for all of his family, friends, colleagues, and patients during this time and I hope that every person finds the strength to grieve for as long as is needed so that healing the pain can begin. Nothing anyone can say will make the pain of his loss go away, but if there is anything that we can do to help Natalie and Mrs. Murphy, please let us know. We love you Nat! You all have a new angel watching over you. Rest easy Dr. Murphy!

I am so saddened to learn of Brent's passing. We were fraternity brothers and shared a room our sophomore year at the Sigma Nu house.
While we had not kept in contact, I knew of Brent's professional success. We last spoke about 10 years ago and had a great visit.
Brent had such a always up for it attitude. I noted in his obituary his appreciation for U2. That made me smile because I've spent many an hour studying while Brent listened to Keith Richard's guitar licks and worked to perfect his playing to that level. Brent always set his expectations high. While his tastes may have gone from The Rolling Stones to U2, I'm quite confident he never stopped pursuing the highest level of performance.
Please know our Sigma Nu community is sharing your loss and will be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

When I think of Dr. Murphy, the word benchmark comes to mind. A person that others should use as an example and strive to attain a like position. He was always respectful to everyone in the operating room and was a highly skilled surgeon. Condolences to his family.
