BETTIS, Charles Mayo "Dobber"

Charles Mayo "Dobber" Bettis, age 87, passed away peacefully September 27, 2022. Charlie was a native of Trumann, Arkansas and moved to Decatur, Georgia in 1953 where he began his career in the concrete contracting business pouring sidewalks and driveways. He would become a successful General Contractor owning several companies in Florida, Texas and Georgia. A few of his most cherished construction projects were the Atlantic Steel Mill Plant in Cartersville, Georgia, as well as many Concrete Tilt Up Warehouses in and around Atlanta. He constructed rides for Six Flags over Georgia; such as Thunder River, the Mindbender Roller Coaster and many more. Charlie was always proud to say he had the same telephone number and address for Allsouth Construction Company for over 60 Years on New Street in Decatur. In addition to contracting, Charlie was a successful real estate developer and businessman. With his trademark Cigar he would develop mini warehouses, golf driving ranges, warehouses, and commercial office buildings. A few of his accomplishments were being named Dekalb County Man of the Year in 1970 and an original investor and Board Member of Bank Atlanta.

Charlie is survived by his sons Charles Welton Bettis, John Bradford Bettis (Marlece), and his daughter Pamela Bettis Zuber (Bill); 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. Surviving as well, is his companion Mary Burt and special caretaker Perry Carter, Jr.

Burial will take place at Nettleton Cemetery, Jonesboro Arkansas. A Celebration of Life will be held in Decatur, Georgia and will be scheduled at a later date. Donations can be made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta in memory of Charlie Bettis.
