Family-Placed Death Notice

CHARLES GOHL DEVON Charles Gohl Devon, age 81, of Stone Mountain, Georgia died September 17, 2005. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, September 19, 2005 at Lilburn Alliance Church. Mr. Devon was born in Atlanta and attend Boys High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the 3rd Army, 10th Armoured Division and served in World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and was honored during the liberation of Metz in defense of France. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1951 with a degree in landscape architecture. He was a registered landscape architect and retired from the City of Atlanta Parks Department after a career with the State of Georgia Parks Department. His true love was playing trombone. He was an original member of The "17" and the Atlanta Blue Notes. He also played with the Modernaires and the Nostalgics. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Devon of Stone Mountain, daughter, Peggy Devon Lasseter of Stone Mountain; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jo Devon of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Devon and Chris Hamstra of Grand Rapids, MI; Timothy and Laura Lasseter of Hartwell, GA; Andrea Devon, Christina Devon and Alex Devon of Greenville, SC; great-grandchildren, Mackensie Hamstra and Micah Hamstra of Grand Rapids, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Hospice, 4151 Memorial Drive, Decatur, GA 30032 or to the Hart County High School Marching Band, Hartwell, GA. The family will receive friends from 3-5 PM, Sunday at Bill Head Funeral Home & Crematory, Lilburn/Tucker Chapel. (770)564-2726.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of Mr. Devon. What an amazing man with a ready laugh, always kind words, a sincere interest in people and an amazing intelligence. His music was always fun to listen to. Our family has been blessed by Mr. Devon and you all for many years. Thank you for letting him put his special imprint on our lives.
