Dorothy Lucille Shattuck was born on August 23, 1911 in Fredonia, NY. With her parents, brother and sister, she was raised on the family's dairy farm. She enjoyed her short career as a school teacher who taught all grade levels in a one-room schoolhouse before marrying her late husband, Lionel F. Shattuck, and moving their family to Pittsburgh, PA. More important to her than her career was her family which she devoted her life to as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her son Darrel Shattuck and his wife Pauline. Her other child, the late Jody Sodel, who was Miss Georgia in 1957, passed away last year. She has always been lovingly referred to as "Nana" by her other survivors including eight grandchildren: Dwayne Shattuck, Shari Moss, Stephanie Williamson, Shawna Youngblood, Stacy Womack, Steve Sodel, Bryan Sodel, and Lesley Miles, and her twelve great-grandchildren. She had lived in the greater Atlanta area since 1951 where she enjoyed being near her children, grandchildren and their growing families. She also married her late second husband, Clayton Shattuck, who passed away last year in Atlanta. They enjoyed entertaining family and friends on their houseboat and hosting family functions in their home. The manner in which she lived her life has had such a positive and profound impact on her family that her legacy will live on in future generations. She always handled every situation with dignity and grace and will be dearly missed. She passed away on July 10, 2003 from a stroke and natural causes. Graveside services will be held at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs on Saturday, July 12th at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Chilton Thorington officiating.
