Family-Placed Death Notice

Douglas Rudolph Samples, age 70, of Atlanta, patriarch of the Samples family, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, January 27, 2005. He suffered a heart attack. He was an encourager, comforter, uplifter, a rock upon whom many leaned. He was an accomplished businessman, salesman and entrepreneur. He was a native of Buford, GA, attended Buford High School and played football for Coach Tom Riden. He was in the Marine Reserves. He was retired and served as the Treasurer and was on the Board of Directors of the Christian Jew Foundation. His passion in life was his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Proverbs 11:30 says, "He who winneth souls is wise," truly exemplified his life. He was a dynamic soulwinner. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Faye Samples; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Chip Smith of Suwanee, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Sherry Samples of Tucker, GA; daughter, Hope Adams of Sugar Hill, GA; grandchildren, Tripp, Cody, Zach and Summer Smith, Lexi, Cori, and Cole Samples, Dylan, Lincoln and Levi Adams; brother, Joel Samples; and sisters, Shelby Suggs, Janice Price and Juwan Mayo.The family will receive visitors at the funeral home, Saturday from 6:00-8:00 PM. The funeral will be held Sunday at 2:30 PM in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Dr. Gene Winfrey and Dr. Gary Hedrick officiating. Interment will follow at North Atlanta Memorial Gardens, Winters Chapel Road, Doraville, GA.
