Family-Placed Death Notice
CARROLL, Edna EDNA MARIE CARROLL Edna Marie Carroll, 75, Fernandina Beach, FL, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2011 in Jacksonville, FL. Edna was born on August 16, 1936 in Jacksonville. She attended Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville. Edna retired from Georgia Power in 1992 after 28 years of service. A beautiful wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was an exceptionally kind and strong woman. Prior to her death, she fought and beat breast cancer since 1995. She loved cooking (and was an excellent cook), keeping her home spotless, and caring for her family. She loved her family and was a great inspiration and role model, maintaining grace and poise in even her most troubling times. Edna is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert Carroll; daughter, Marlene Reece; grandchildren, Michael Roberts and Jennifer Roberts; great-grandchildren Alexis and Hailey; sisters, Frances August and Leda Ingle; sister-in-law, Jeanette (Doug) Stewart, and many other loving family and friends. All are invited to a memorial service in celebration of Edna's life at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. Jacksonville, FL. 32211. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org

I just found out the other day about Aunt Edna's passing....otherwise I would have made the trip to Florida for the funeral. I have always been so fond of Aunt Edna and her husband, Bob. My heart goes out to you all at this difficult time.

Edna was indeed a great cook, over the year's she cooked enough liver for me to fill a bath tub. Bob was also a great neighbor too.JoAnn and I have known them since 1973 during that time I never had to buy a paint brush, roller or anything to do with painting or wall papering our house. He would even furnish free paint. Bob and Edna each one of them are special, but together they are the best. I will miss Edna.

Our Aunt Edna was a magnificent lady who's gentle, caring and comforting soul touched many peoples lives. We miss her so much, her hugs, her company, her cooking, her advise, her smell. We have so many wonderful memories and will cherish each and every one of them. Uncle Bob, Marlene, Michael, Jennifer, Aunt Frankie, and Aunt Leda, we love ya'll.

I have done Ednas hair for a long time, and I have enjoyed her as a customer and friend. We had lots of laughs and tears together. She was a really special lady. I will miss her very much. LOVE, Debra Shirley

Edna was blessed with a strong but quiet and gentle spirit. She and Bob bought their home across the street shortly before we bought ours and we became very good friends. I loved her and I will miss her so much. Bob, you and Marlene and your family are in our prayers.

I remember good times, back in the late 70's & early 80's, living across the corner from Bob and Edna. Great nieghbors and great people. Bob, Edna, Robert, JoAnn, "Little Bob", Pete, Jackie, Connie, my wife, Marlene and I, and our daughters, Rhonda and Karen formed a four home square of neighbors who helped each other and got along great. Edna was a sweetheart.

Edna was one of the kindest, sweetest and most of all caring women that I've ever known. One of the best neighbors anyone could ever ask for. Jeff, Haley, Callie and I have the best memories of Bob and Edna and how immaculate their house always was and how you never entered without Edna trying to offer to fix you something to eat and what an amazing cook she was. I will cherish all of the good memories but heaven has gained a wonderful angel and we will miss her dearly. Our heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to Bob and the rest of Edna's family. We love you.

I remember Edna's kind heart and humor all those many years ago whenever I was in the neighborhood visiting the Allens. Edna and Bob's door and pool were always open for a good time with friends and family. This world has 1 less kind heart now.

We are all missing Aunt Edna right now, but we know she is in a better place, with Gladys, Sharon and all her friends. She's not hurting anymore and in that we can find some peace. She was an inspiration to us all and will live in our hearts forever.
