George BUTCHER Obituary

BUTCHER, Jr., George William "Bill" George William "Bill" Butcher, Jr., 74, of Marietta, died Saturday, July 8, 2017. Born Oct 16, 1942 in Norfolk, VA, Bill's early loves included his Riverview River Rats, Granby High - where he was Mr. Comet, and attending UVA. He moved to Northern VA and served as president of Alexandria Jaycees as well as Lake Ridge Jaycees. He was elected to State Board and enjoyed traveling around the state picking guitar and doing service projects. Bill truly believed "Service to humanity is the greatest work of life." A born sales personality, he was a pioneer in the high tech industry with Xerox, Lexitron/Raytheon, and Hayes Microcomputer where he was VP of Sales. Bill and Carla were married in 1977 and transferred to Atlanta in 1980. Jacksons Creek quickly became a forever home. Bill embraced his choice to become Jewish with his entire heart. He helped found and served as president of a synagogue and enjoyed his long membership at Temple Beth Tikvah. Bill loved fishing, tennis (Below C Level), and golf. He and his nearly 30-year ASSOGO buddies proved that you don't have to be good at golf to enjoy it. His favorite afternoons were spent with martinis and shooting pool with Richard. In recent years he loved helping at Sunshine School, his granddaughters pre-school. Atlanta Theatre-To-Go was also a favorite place to volunteer. Bill will always be a beloved husband, father, Bumpa, Granddad, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 40 yrs, Carla; daughter, Jaime White (Chas), their three daughters: Laynie, Charlie, and Parker; son, Shawn (Kaitlin); son, Bill Butcher III (Karen), their sons, Riley and Key; brother, Dale (Andree); sister, Sheryl Graham. He is also survived by Nancye Vermillion, Katie Butcher, and their families. Laughter and love were the most important parts of his life and were included in every day no matter how stressful the day. Losing Bill will leave a gaping hole in many lives but that sadness will eventually be replaced with joy...that's how he would want it. Sign online guestbook: www.edressler.com. A Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 11 at Temple Beth Tikvah, 955 Coleman Rd. Roswell, GA 30328. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: MJCCA Sunshine School "Bumpa's Books" 1415 Old Canton Rd. Marietta, GA 30062, or Atlanta Theatre-To-Go www.atlantatheatretogo.com. My fondest recent memories are of all the Facebook postings of Bumpa, Carla & Jaime's precious three daughters. More specifically, the photo of Bumpa in a ballerina tutu dancing in a sandwich shop with them. Priceless, just Priceless!
