Gerald Profis Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

PROFIS, Gerald GERALD PROFIS Gerald Profis of Dunwoody died September 25th ,2009 after a short illness. Born in Lublin, Bessarabia on August 25,1914, he also lived in Israel and Cuba before coming to the United States in 1962. For many years he owned the B&G Grocery Store in Atlanta with his late brother in law Bernard Cooper. Poppy, as he was lovingly known by all, was a man who lived to protect and provide for his family. Through the Holocaust, his voyage to Cuba and his new start in the United States, he was driven to give his family a better, more comfortable life than he had. He was a generous man who never met a stranger. He had a smile that lit up a room. He was passionate in his love for the State of Israel and for his religion. He was preceded in death by his son, Victor Profis, just two months ago. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dory Profis, daughter and son in law Loli and Joel Gross, daughter in law Deena Profis, grandchildren Emily and Kurt Moore, David Roffwarg, Michelle and Lauren Profis, and Jacob and Rachel Gross, and by his precious great granddaughter Hallie Evin Moore. He is also survived by his sister, Rose Cooper, and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 12:30 PM, Sunday, September 27, 2009 in Crestlawn Memorial Park. Donations can be made to Congregation Shearith Israel, 1160 University Dr., Atlanta,Ga.30306, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Dressler's Jewish Funeral Care, Atlanta (770)451.4999
